Any update on cruises scheduled to leave from Puerto Rico?

I was able to change our flights from Toronto to San Juan on AA today, from Wednesday November 8th, to Friday November 10th without a change fee. I spent close to 3 hours on the phone (one of the flights was booked on points so had to speak with credit card rewards people), but it was worth the wait because I now only need to worry about one night in SJ versus 3. We are booked at La Concha and fingers crossed they do re-open on November 1st or there might be a bench with my name on it at the airport :o

Good luck Robyn, hope it all works out for you.:)

Has anyone called the Marriott directly to discover if they are truly welcoming guests or if they are open only to FEMA and other recovery staff? We were able to make a reservation for November but I'd be curious to know if anyone has received reassurance or hesitation from them in speaking directly.

Which Marriott? I'm at the AC Hotel (Marriott property) and I've confirmed my reservations twice by phone and once via Facebook messenger.

My first post in this thread. We're on Oct 28th adventure of seas cruise. Booked it 6 months ago. We had 3 days in hotel booked and flights. Our return flight (Nov 4) via United was cancelled with nobody telling us. Same with our hotel. We just spent days getting a return flight on american airlines of course being charged more money. We are now flying in the day of the cruise (noon) and must get on ship by 7. So now we fly american airlines in from Rochester NY and back (fight 772). We are sad we can't stay in San Juan for 3 days prior as that was going to be the highlight of the trip. We were even looking into volunteering time on the island somewhere to help out but with the hotel/flight issues that can't happen unfortunately. We have not booked any excursions but we are thinking of booking every one of them tonight (some thru ship, some not). We're very worried about losing money on this. Already well past our budget.

Join the club! We had initially booked 2 nights pre-cruise. We're now flying in on Friday (and had to make a new airline reservation for that flight at more money) and having to spend a night at JFK (more money than original hotel) and are spending a night at the AC Hotel in San Juan (more money than original hotel).

RCL's customer service was less than helpful with our issue of a suspended international flight. If they would have allowed us to board the ship in St. Kitts we could have rearranged our schedule with no further financial outlay on our part. My strategy is to now spend as little money on the ship as possible.

Marriott Stellaris

Hi Schplinky - Off topic slightly......I noticed in another thread (or maybe even this one?) that you said you were from Halifax, or that you lived there at one time? I was born and raised there......:D

On another note - I have tried unsuccessfully to reach the Stellaris by phone and by email - as well as tried to make a reservation online for the night of Nov 10th, but the hotel doesn't even show as an option. I have on the other hand spoken to La Concha directly as well as received an email confirmation - so fingers crossed..

Marriott Stellaris

There's been no updates to their Facebook page since late September. The Puerto Rico tourism site has them reopening on 11/1/17, but I've found that some of their information isn't completely reliable. I'd make a back-up reservation somewhere else just to be on the safe side.

I grew up outside halifax near Windsor, in a place called Newport Corner.

I have three reservations, currently. One at the Hampton Inn (which told me that despite what their website says, they are unsure when they will re-open to the public; they are currently housing recovery workers), one at the marriott and one at the La Concha, who have been very reassuring when I reach out. What I'm trying to do is make sure i have at least two "good" reservations, so that if one falls through, the other can be a back-up.

You probably ended up on the same flight as us on the 10th. thru Miami? We are booked into the Doubletree for the one night and were able to confirm our reservations thru them yesterday. Made me feel a whole lot better!

FEMA has contracted a San Juan based Carnival ship to assist with recovery in the Virgin Islands. Wondering if their aren't enough hotel rooms available in Puerto Rico & the USVI for FEMA ?

We are also flying from Rochester, NY, we are flying Southwest on 11/9. We have hotel reservations booked two days prior at the Hampton Inn. I'm not sure if we should change our days prior to Fort Lauderdale instead of San Juan. Our cruise is 11/11.

Time to join FEMA!!!!

and, 100% cruise credit in ADDITION TO full refund. Wow! How can they afford that? I almost hate to see it... now everyone will be expecting that in the future. It's seriously unrealistic. ...Unless Carnival thinks they can persuade you to spend the entire cost of your free cruise on add-ons. Wait, they CAN accomplish that.

Maybe they’ve done this to free up hotel space so that Puerto Rico can slowly resume tourism?

Or maybe they did it because now the ship is booked solid and paid in full for the few months and they don't have to try to market the ship to a destination not many want to go to at this time.

Plus they get good press for using the ship for humanitarian efforts.

Win win for everybody including the canceled pax as they get a 100% cruise credit on top of their refund if they rebook by November.

Lets hope the people of PR get their lives back to some semblance of normalcy with electric, water, and shelter in the very near future.

Kathy,

Lol! I wouldn't have been too upset.

Still haven't booked any excursions.

You probably saw that a day or so ago the airport lost power again. Just when we were starting to relax a bit about flying down there!! Dan is freaking out at the thought of sailing back into SJU on the 28th and finding that our flight home has been cancelled and we are stuck down there. I have NEVER purchased cancel-for-any-reason insurance but I sure wish I had this time. I definitely would have cancelled and take the 75% reimbursement.

I need to keep thinking about how great it will be to see those flamingos in Bonaire ...

I've got loads of Casino comp offers for Adventure in Nov but Im the same as you, like the risk of getting there is high! Plus, the flights are super expensive, around 400.00 RT (I usually pay 200-300.00) and thats a big risk to see if I could make it. Maybe some other time, but I am sure lots of people are loving that Casino offer!

I didn't see that. Have been pretty busy lately and haven't been checking as much thinking things have settled down.

I wonder if we are on the same flights home as well? We are on the 1:15pm flight the day we arrive back in SJU.
