Code Red

Currently on board Mariner heading thru tropical storm to Nova Scotia.

NO code red at this time. Our fav server informed us that it was over about 5 days before we sailed from Montreal. BTW...the ship is over 1/3 empty according to our butler, so no waiting thus far for restaurant seating. Also, Hubby won The blackjack tourney. Brag. Brag.

So very glad to hear that the Code Red is over. Let's hope it stays that way for a LONG time! Can you keep all of us posted as to your cruise.....health of ship in general, food in assorted restaurants, any problems, etc? That would be great!

I am glad that posters are willing to discuss openly a subject that is critical to be informed about but can also be controversial. This information will help cruisers that may encounter a Code Red for the first time and not understand what it entails. I am thankful that Regent as well as other cruise lines do their best to mitigate an unfortunate occurrence.

IMO, the reviews of the Mariner have been all all over the place. Some negative reviews are not warranted. The food was wonderful (except for the items mentioned in my review) and the service could not have been better. Of course we were not happy with the ship becoming Code Red at the end but that is always a possibility when at sea. IF there is sickness on "our" cruise, we just need to drink enough alcohol to keep the germs away:evilsmile:

Good news re: code red over for Mariner.

When I read the post above that the casino remained open during code red I was askance...chips, buttons, machines? ..at the same time no buffets, etc. Did passengers see the casino open?

I think everyone would say that is good news that the ship is doing better. Even if the reviews are all over the place I don't understand how you can say "some negative reviews are not warranted". You weren't on the cruise, you didn't experience that cruise, and you can't compare what happened on your cruise 4,5,6,7 months ago. A current cruiser experience what they experience and should have the right to express good or bad how they feel without being told it wasn't warranted.

I was on the ship last month - not months ago. We were on when Code Red began in September.

Ok, one month ago--But you didn't answer my question. I think everyone would say that is good news that the ship is doing better. This is my opinion and it is what it is. If you had been on the Mariner and had a different opinion, it would be nice if you shared it. Again, looking forward to your upcoming Explorer cruise so that your observations and opinions can be based on experience as it truly does make a difference. Generally speaking, a poor review doesn't mean that the ship or crew is not up to par any more than a stunning review means that everything is perfect. These are individual experiences and we are not privy to exactly what transpired.

In terms of differences of opinion, this shows how people can be on the same cruise or the same ship and have very different opinions. What one person isn't bothered by, another may be (particularly when it comes to vibration, condition of the suites - even food since it is so subjective). FWIW, the same F&B Director and Executive Chef on the same ones that were there when we were onboard last month (as are the majority of the crew).

I am hoping that we receive more onboard reviews from the Mariner (not on this thread since we all hope that the ship does not go code red again). There are quite a few CC'er on the two Mariner cruises in November.

TC2, I agree with you on the above post. However you said a few post ago: IMO, the reviews of the Mariner have been all all over the place. Some negative reviews are not warranted. I just don't think you have the right to dismiss another persons post as not warranted. Let others have their opinion, you or I may not agree however very person as a right to state what they feel at the time. Rick

TC, I think you summed it up very well with this sentence - "These are individual experiences and we are not privy to exactly what transpired". Hence you can't say this sentence "Some negative reviews are not warranted" because you aren't privy to what happened and it does sound like their opinion couldn't possibly be real. That is all others are trying to say. ;)

Some negative reviews are not warranted. This is my opinion. You and I have both stated our views on this subject.

Ronrick, I agree with you. I don't understand how someone who wasn't directly involved in a situation can label someone's opinion as unwarranted.

CC is helpful when posters can feel free to post their opinions, both positive and negative without expecting to be denigrated in some subtle or not so subtle manner via labels such as "unwarranted" or platitudes such as "we don't let the little things bother us".

Agree 100%, Regent can do little wrong in some posters eyes and anyone who raises a negative in a post tends to be set upon with inferences that they are being over critical or expecting to much.

Every review whether they are good, bad or critical or any review should be treated with the respect they deserve, and for the time the poster has taken to bring this to our attention.

Nobody wants to read sugar coated reports if the reality is the opposite.

Honest and constructive views should not be subjected to the battering of your description that they are not warranted. Jean.

That’s quite alright...most of us lurkers don’t pay much attention to the one sided opinion of some on these boards. We see the masses onboard that like us, are entitled to their opinions, and pay no attention if one person disses our rightful opinion. As a gen x’er, and the future of cruising, we do have weeks of vacation, and do have the money to cruise in luxury, so, if we feel like one line isn’t up to the standard of what we have become accustomed to in our lifestyle, we just move to one that is. We don’t tend to be like a loyal puppy to a cruise line that can be replaced.
