DaisyL Posted October 29, 2017 Author #28 Share Posted October 29, 2017 We stayed up late enough, midnight only, to cruise over the tunnel! Neat to see. It was so windy the upper decks were closed off so we looked from the pool area and it was very windy there too. Crazy... Just as we walked outside, the Carnival Pride passed our ship soooo close. It was actually scary. I guess they know what they're doing but shocking to us. Didn't get a photo because it happened so fast. As most of you know, the casino and shops were closed last night but they open today. The captain just announced he was avoiding 2 storms now and it's rocky now. Not good for the mostly elderly crowd onboard or me too... Lol. The servers in the Windjammer were asking if anyone needed help. So very accommodating. Btw, the piano player said that the ship had 32 ft. Waves for about 5 hrs last week.... Hmmmm... Did anyone hear this, I missed it? Off to the CC, M&M... Ttyl. The channel in the bay is fairly narrow, and of course both ships have to stay in the channel - most of the rest of the bay that far south is way too shallow for a large ship. This NOAA page has a chart, you can zoom in and see how close you have to be! Theron

retiredgram Posted October 29, 2017 #33 Share Posted October 29, 2017 We love the Grandeur. Of course we are in our 70's, so the size is perfect for us. We go on a B2B every year and enjoy it so much. I will be following along to get your opinions about your cruise on this ship.. I see you have a junior suite. As many times as we have been on this ship, we have never seen what the junior suite looks like. If you have time, could you post some pixs of your cabin. Enjoy your cruise. Keep the photos coming. Hmmm have to try the B 52. Looks delicious
DaisyL Posted October 29, 2017 Author #34 Share Posted October 29, 2017 Wow.. What a big meet and mingle, it filled the lounge. The gifts were so nice too. Thanks everyone for the info you're posting here. I will check out the sites. I'll try to take a picture of the menu every night. We're not going to any specialty restaurants so in the main dining room. We have 7 people at a table for 6 right next to the captain's table. Tonight is formal night, first sea day. Sent from my iPad using Forums We got off of Grandeur yesterday morning before you boarded. We had some pretty rough seas starting overnight Wednesday and all through Thursday. Can't confirm the 32 ft. waves referenced by the piano player as we spent the day in our interior cabin flat on our backs in the dark, but yes, it was rough going for the majority of the day on Thursday. Items slid off of the writing desk and out of the mirrored cabinets in our room. Heard stories of things crashing in the Windjammer galley as well. Friday dawned with plenty of sunshine and the return of smooth sailing though, so we got to enjoy our last full day aboard. Wishing you fair winds and following seas for the remainder of your voyage! I can't even imagine. We've been through 20-25 ft. waves twice before. Once on NCL Dawn where things crashed off the shelves in the cosmetic/perfume store and some of the crew were green in addition to passengers. Another time at night but could feel the swaying in bed. But nothing as bad as items crashing in elsewhere or in cabins. So maybe it was 32 ft. The captain came on again to tell us he was able to squeeze between 2 systems cruising eastbound so the weather should improve. It's windy outside, upper decks closed, pools empty but the skies cleared and still rocky but not as bad. Relaxing in the Solarium and the lounge chairs so comfy. Can't confirm the size of waves but did hear the captain say winds as high as 70mph, Cat 1 hurricane is 74. The windjammer was crazy , dished flying off the tables and buffet area. People getting sick. The worst we saw was in South Pacific lounge, all the paintings and easels cane crashing down, broken glass tables. Hard to believe with the average age of the cruise but 1 supervisor stated only aware of 1 person saying injured from the event. Piper934 Posted October 29, 2017 #42 Share Posted October 29, 2017 Make sure to check out Park Cafe for breakfast, lunch or late snack. Never a line, good relaxing area and where they have the nice yummy roast beef. Just avoid the pizza, nasty is an understatement. Save that calorie consumption for something better. Overall a great ship. Enjoy. Sent from my SM-G950U using Forums mobile app

The piano player that told us it was 32ft for your cruise said the crew had to screw down the portholes in his cabin and then did it again yesterday, on deck 1. ForSharonB Posted October 29, 2017 #45 Share Posted October 29, 2017 What's the Solarium temps like? Is it warm? Will the roof be open when it's warmer? or do they keep it closed?
DaisyL Posted October 29, 2017 Author #46 Share Posted October 29, 2017 What's the Solarium temps like? Is it warm? Will the roof be open when it's warmer? or do they keep it closed? It's on the cool side now in the Solarium but nobody is bundled up and I'm very comfortable as opposed to the Anthem where it was so hot in there. I'll let you know if they open the roof.
