Rare jpalbny Posted January 20, 2018 #1402 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Greetings Coolers! Lovely to hear that you are enjoying the atmosphere here Linda! It does become a little addictive. :) Must be something in the Cooler water. Today's funny: It's just after 11:00 am here. Still on the coffee. Have a great day all! That's awesome! Some days I need the extra coffee so I can stay awake long enough to drink the wine! ;p *** Lois, so glad you are feeling better and chomping at the bit to get back to work. It sounds like you are as bad as we are WRT not being able to sit still.

I am calling the Dr on Monday to see if I can go back to work on Tuesday..........I sit at a desk all day anyway so it is not like I am putting any strain on my body. Hoping for a Jags win tomorrow:D Good luck, Lois, in getting back to work and continuing your recovery. YES, those kidney stones are "pesky"!! Have just gone through getting several of those being "busted up" in November and December. I did not need the "full surgery", but it was done as a "procedure" at a surgery center. Still serious stuff!! None of this is fun or exciting to experience. Departing tomorrow morning for our first visit to Southeast Asia. Completed today the airline check-ins, got our boarding passes, etc. This adventure will feature Hong Kong, Bangkok, Vietnam and Cambodia, including a seven-day Mekong River cruise, then Angkor Wat, Hanoi, Halong Bay and Hue/Danang. Hope Lois and others can join in on my live/blog that will be posted on the Cruise Critic River Cruising Board starting in late January. This will be our first river cruise. Will post more tomorrow as we are waiting for our flights. On the Jags at New England game, I like both teams. Good reasons be for and like either one. BUT, our Sunday Cathay Pacific flight departs at 2:05 pm CST from Chicago. We won't be able to watch or follow along to see which team wins and gets the chance to go to Minnesota for the Super Bowl on Feb. 4. Good luck to all four NFL teams playing on Sunday. THANKS! Enjoy! Rare mysty Posted January 20, 2018 #1406 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Glad you enjoyed the funny J! :) More apt than is good for me but life is short. Lovely looking platter! UKCruiseJeff Posted January 20, 2018 #1407 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Glad you enjoyed the funny J! :) More apt than is good for me but life is short. Lovely looking platter! To my uneducated culinary eyes those look like hot dogs. What are they really? Thanks. They are extremely good Bratties! Bratwurst. We had some Poilane rye sourdough and some crunchy wedges. I was very good and only had a couple of wedgies as I'm now down by around eleven pound since returning from Vienna and the knees are starting to work a bit more! To that end I have also given up my nightly half gallon of armagnac ..... and I'm missing it. :)
Rare mysty Posted January 20, 2018 #1408 Share Posted January 20, 2018 The Bratwurst looks yummy as do the accompaniments! Very determined of you to curtail the wedges and the Armagnac! I applaud your restraint! :) And congrats on the eleven pound loss!
Rare jpalbny Posted January 20, 2018 #1409 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Almost a stone down! Great work! I enjoyed some choucroute in Brussels last weekend... Unlike Jeff, I did NOT show any restraint. And this plate is just the first course. There were at least three more sausages in the hot pot next to my plate... This was also the day that we had the his and hers half bottles for lunch. Mine was an Alsatian Gewurztraminer. Oh, I am getting thirsty just thinking about it! I have some paprikash chicken in the oven, made with paprika from Budapest. Smells delicious. Will try to get a picture before it disappears. We did a second coat of paint in the master bedroom today. Time for a rest! Happy Saturday all!
Rare mysty Posted January 20, 2018 #1410 Share Posted January 20, 2018 JP...that looks like an awesome sausage dish! And Chris looks so happy! Sorry I missed her birthday. Happy belated Chris! Rare jpalbny Posted January 20, 2018 #1412 Share Posted January 20, 2018 It tasted awesome. I used the hot paprika so it really tickled the taste buds. : ) In the oven. Almost done. Over noodles. Ready to eat! Yes, that's an avocado. With the hot spice, I figured we needed something to cool it down. And a little salad for good measure. Simple recipe. Slice an onion. Cook in butter with salt and pepper. Add garlic, paprika, cayenne if desired. Then stir in flour and add enough chicken broth to make a sauce. Add chicken and cook until done. Add cream to sauce before serving. I used whole chicken thighs so I browned them first and cooked the dish in the oven to get crispy skin. Next time I'll add sour cream to the sauce instead of half and half. But really tasty. Brought us back to our fun visit to Budapest. Can't wait to make it again. UKCruiseJeff Posted January 21, 2018 #1414 Share Posted January 21, 2018 JP, that dish looks lovely and is a perfect warmer. I have only one complaint about your earlier piccies. HALF BOTTLES. I know you are healthy and prudent ...... but half bottles. :) Tommorow is another shot at carbonara with a few small adjustments over last time. I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to use some nice smoked ham instead of pancetta and a looser less rich and less Parmesan cheesy sauce.
Rare jpalbny Posted January 21, 2018 #1415 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Jeff...it was lunch. And we had more on the agenda afterwards. It wasn't a sea day! Good luck with the carbonara. Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app
UKCruiseJeff Posted January 21, 2018 #1416 Share Posted January 21, 2018 I understand JP, but half bottles are a sin against mankind in every set of circumstances. :p Except in France. But they sin in so many other ways that us cultured Americans and Brits can only speculate on. :D I keep going back to look at that Alsace plate .... it looks lovely. Was that andouilette and was that little red sausage spicy ie a bit like merguaez or bourdin?
Rare jpalbny Posted January 21, 2018 #1417 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Not Andouillette. That is a bit too much for me. I've tried it once. The two slices were smoked pork and a sausage. Yes the little red one was a little spicy and had some smokiness. It was my favorite. We like half bottles when the time is right. And they worked wonderfully for that meal. There was no Gewürztraminer by the glass, and what could be better with an Alsatian lunch? Chris had duck so she needed a nice red. Mudhen Posted January 21, 2018 #1418 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Oh no! I must've made a mistake! I'm in the "Bon Apetite" or "Gourmet" or "Cook's Illustrated" magazine forum! So much beautiful food porn and then there was that great luncheon shot....OMG! .....giggle! (we had left overs last night....still tasty!) Today is play off day in the US. Will be keeping fingers crossed for the Jags....Patriots have too much already, and I'm tired of Tom. Almost as bad as the Mannings....well, nothing could be worse than them....hahaha! Bon Voyage to Terry and Mrs. T. Fair winds and following seas.....Have fun all, no matter what you're doing! Linda
Rare mysty Posted January 21, 2018 #1419 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Greetings Coolers! It seems we are headed for another freezing rain event. Rare TLCOhio Posted January 21, 2018 #1420 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Have a great trip Terry and Mrs. Terry! I'll be sure to look for your blog. Hope I finish mine before you do. Hi Terry, Bon Voyage and have a wonderful trip ........I am hoping for a win but we are playing the GOAT.......... so.......... Appreciate these kind travel wishes from J.P and Lois. Am at the Columbus airport (named now for John Glenn) getting ready for our 8:44 am American Airlines flight to Chicago. Will post once we get to Chicago. We'll be using the British Airways lounge (per their partnership with Cathay Pacific). Not a big luxury location with large windows and hot day-time food. BUT, we'll survive with BA. Have about a four-hour lay-over at Chicago O'Hare. Wanted that much "cushion-time" there to lessen any risks with January weather problems in Chicago. Sorry, mysty, about the cold weather coming to Canada and other parts of the world. For our upcoming four days in Hong Kong, we will have high's around 70F. For Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, the high's will be in the temperature range of 88-93F. That's hot, HOT, but we won't complain too much. Lots of great food visuals being shared. Making me hungry. All look nice and tasty!! Will try to check and follow the score on the Jacksonville at New England game this afternoon! Rooting for an excellent performance by both teams!! Is that being fair? THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Rare TLCOhio Posted January 21, 2018 #1422 Share Posted January 21, 2018 For our upcoming first visit to Southeast Asia, we will have lots of air flights. A Hong Kong to Singapore ocean sailing would have easier. BUT, we wanted more time in certain key cities, plus getting more of a Mekong River and countryside "immersion" experience. This trip will feature Hong Kong, Bangkok, Vietnam and Cambodia, including a seven-day Mekong River cruise, then Angkor Wat, Hanoi, Halong Bay and Hue/Danang. We will be gone a little over one month for this latest “adventure”. By airline, we will travel 17,975 miles on these ten different flights. This will include going in and out of three of the 20 most busy airports in the world. Those biggie airports are Chicago O'Hare, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Hoping to survive and do well??!! THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting.
