jimdod Posted November 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2017 When we were on the Star earlier this year at the happy hour the would not leave caps on a beer so I could take it back to the room. the head waiter in charge of the wheelhouse said it was a new policy. Anyone else experienced this? we are sailing soon on the Emerald.
partybarbie Posted November 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2017 I have not experienced this, but the Grolsch beer bottle comes with it's own reusable cap. ;)

easyboy Posted November 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Depends on familiarity with the bartender. We did not have problem in requesting for unopened bottles. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

neverbeenhere Posted November 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 3, 2017 A couple Domestic beers come in metal "bottles" with screw caps.
jimdod Posted November 5, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Lots of help IF they force me to have the caps off. The caps pointed to by partybarbie are pretty cool. But I'm still looking to see if the practice of removing all the caps has become fleet wide.
Rare MrSchwump Posted November 5, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Happened to me last year onthe Regal. They said all beers had to be opened at the time of purchase. I was crestfallen.
MarkSeattle Posted November 5, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Was on the Grand last week. Bought a buy one, get one for $1 and had both caps left on in the Wheelhouse, at the evening One5 happy hour bought 2, left the cap on one.
neverbeenhere Posted November 5, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2017 I was crestfallen. That might be a little overkill for BOGO.
Bill B Posted November 5, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2017 I've never experienced the new, 'open beer' BOGO policy, but it's one more reason to drink Grolsch. Not only is it good beer, it's the most expensive beer... so the best value for your $1 (and you can cap it immediately with the metal & rubber 'swing top') . newport dave Posted November 5, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Was on the Crown in October and didn't have a problem, even when I bought 4 at a time.
Corfe Mixture Posted November 5, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 5, 2017 We take a champagne clip on stopper with us and once our carry one champagne has been drunk, they have proved useful for sealing opened beer bottles. Must remember to take a couple of stoppers with me this year. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Bill B Posted November 5, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 5, 2017 It's like 'opposite land'... you could get busted for walking around with a 'closed bottle'. ;p
oldjetdriver Posted November 5, 2017 #15 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Buy 'Grolsch' which has a resealable stopper.
jagoffee Posted November 6, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 6, 2017 Buy 'Grolsch' which has a resealable stopper. This works until the ship runs out of Grolsch like on our most recent cruise. I suspect it was because of this policy.
2MORECRUISERS Posted November 6, 2017 #17 Share Posted November 6, 2017 Here’s the solution for my husband since he always drinks the same domestic screw top beer can, I’ll just make sure he brings a baggie of extra caps to carry around. He’ll cap that extra one right after they hand it to him. Not a beer drinker myself, but I think it’ll work. LidoLiz Posted November 7, 2017 #20 Share Posted November 7, 2017 Just off the Ruby.....had no problem getting six bottles of Bass beers at the BOGO event in the Wheelhouse, all of them capped. Only tricky thing was getting them back to the cabin without a bucket!
voljeep Posted November 7, 2017 #21 Share Posted November 7, 2017 Is there any difference if you are 'buying 3/6 beers at a time' versus buying the PBP , and only being able to get one beer at time? You've most certainly paid for them either way and I've never had a problem getting a capped beer before when it was the AIBP - but now I guess the rules have changed? And we all know about Princess "rules"
Thrak Posted November 8, 2017 #22 Share Posted November 8, 2017 Just got off 28 days on Emerald Princess. We had the beverage package so didn't participate in Happy Hour but were in Wheelhouse many times while it was going on. I saw all beers opened. Someone was picking up 6 at the bar and they opened all of them. We purchased beer at time other than happy hour and were able to get unopened beers for our room. We also picked up any number of small bottles of champagne for the room. :) Of course most of the bartenders knew me after the first couple of days. A number of bartenders knew my card number without asking. Wheelhouse knew it by day 2...
Jersey42 Posted November 8, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 8, 2017 No issues on the Caribbean in October, because they did not offer the BOGO for $1 at anytime on our 14 day cruise.
figmentdj Posted November 8, 2017 #24 Share Posted November 8, 2017 This might be worth the investment. https://www.thespruce.com/beer-savers-review-353037 Tried to use these a couple of times just for these occasions. They tend to pop off due to the carbonation I think. If they we're placed in a regular fridge and not a "moving" one they'd probably work better.
