Lunch Options on Freedom for 1st Day of Cruise

There will be 7 of us on the Freedom, Jan 6th. What are the best options for lunch on the 1st day? Appreciate your feedback.

How crowded the WJ will be depends when you get there! It will have the most options, menu-wise. Just check it out, and if it's too crowded, you can try one of the other places.

With that large a group I would go to the WJ to make sure that everyone finds something they like.

 

I would board early and be at the WJ right at 11:15 or 11:30 when it opens or board later and head to the WJ about 1:30 after the cabins open and it thins out a bit

If you want to start with as little stress as possible, I would spend the money and eat a Johnny Rockets. That way you know it won't be overly crowded.

Also check the Cruise Compass for day 1 when you get on board. Some ships have Chops open for lunch now. That would be extra cost, but the most relaxing and least stress.

I would recommend, if you go to the WJ, get your tables first then leave in groups, while some hold the table /'s then they go. With 7 in your group, if you all go to eat, you could find yourselves scattered throughout the WJ also hard to locate each other.

Is Johnny Rocket opening for lunch at Freedom a new thing? In looking back at my old daily cruise compass from last December, JR didn't open until 5 PM on day 1. I'm not a JR fan so they could be open for lunch on day 1 and I wouldn't know about it, but just want to double check we have the correct info for OP.

 

To OP, if you want to go to WJ, just board the ship early and head straight to WJ (do not pass Go and collect $200) and you should have no problems. These are the pictures from our cruise and they showed how empty the WJ is if you arrive early. There are tons of empty tables.

Johnny Rockets was not open when we were on Freedom back in 2015 at boarding.

There will be 5 of us that day.....we always go to the Windjammer first, because there is something for everyone, from pizza, to burgers, to sandwich fixings, to salads, to hot meal options. And...desserts.

Ditto the Windjammer. That’s what my family and it worked out fine.

Chops was open on Navigator for 19 a person but well worth the money, check your planner
