Vaccinations Needed for cruises to Central America?

Follow the link that Bob shared, it's the same site that doctors use (at least all the doctors I've gone to). Search for each country you will be visiting and read the little blurb next to each vaccine. Sometimes they will list a vaccine and then further explain that it's only needed if you will be working on a farm in the country, or spending extended time in the jungle, or in rural areas. Sometimes they'll list specific cities that the recommend additional vaccines for. Basically, just read through the CDC site for each country in detail.

Nothing is required for these places.

With that said it is a good opportunity to check with your physician's office to be sure that all of your vaccinations are up to date.

I also use the CDC web site because in this case it has good recommendations on vaccinations no matter where you travel and what to be sure is up to date.

The key on some of this is what you plan to do. For example do you plan to visit remote areas/rain forests and eat a lot off the ship. If no to those two questions that eliminates some items.

Finally I do find that medical personnel who specialize in travel really are a big help and use them form some of our trips. This is the link to the website for the travel health specialists that we use and they have offices in many locations within the USA.

Again, nothing is required for where you are sailing.

As a frequent international traveler, I suggest you spend the money and go to "Passport Health". Most general practitioner MDs do not have the knowledge. Yes CDC site will help, but that is the minimum you will need. Not suggesting to get the max but suggesting you know both the min and max to make an informed decision for yourself. Only you can determine how much risk you are willing to take.

That's where I went before a South America cruise several years ago. They were excellent and provided me with a personalized booklet explaining specific risks of the places I would be visiting, and let me make my own decisions on what I wanted to do. I would highly recommend.
