chamima Posted May 10, 2018 #76 Share Posted May 10, 2018 I did a Bon Voyage on the Emerald yesterday, and in the waiting area chatted with another woman in our group who works for Princess. I asked her if they are indeed selling the Pacific and she said no, that Princess recognizes it's importance to it's customers and that it's not for sale and that Princess does not intend to sell her. I really hope you're right as we're signed up for the 2020 World Cruise on her and that's been a bucket list trip we promised ourselves for our 50th Anniversary. 2 years ago , before the refurbishment, but just after Princess announced they would do it, we were on her and our Headwaiter told us they had committed to at least 7 more years. Unfortunately, sometimes the crew are the last to know of corporate decisions.

I'll try and nose around and see what I can find out. When the new releases come out I want to do the Panama Canal on her in May 2020, so I too am hoping that what I was told was correct and that she remains in the fleet. I'm slightly optimistic about what it was told as it came from an employee who works for Princess Corporate, so to me that carries a little more weight. caribill Posted May 11, 2018 #79 Share Posted May 11, 2018 The current President of Princess has committed to keep the Pacific Princess in the fleet as long as it makes economic sense.
AF-1 Posted May 13, 2018 #80 Share Posted May 13, 2018 I agree with above post. If and when the ship no longer generates sufficient profit and it costs more to upkeep then its worth; they may look into selling it. As of now it looks like this ship is keeping up with the rest of them and is always booked; so thats good for those who have cruises booked thru 2020

I think Princess would not tell their employees about a sale to keep them from jumping ship. Sorry, I couldn't resist that! When I was the Ee. Bfts. Manager at Macmillan Pub., there were roomers that a sub. (G. Schirmer) was being sold. The president asked me to come to his office late on a Friday afternoon. He wouldn't tell me the reason. He had gathered the officers of the company and told them there was no truth to the roomers. He called another meeting Monday morning to let everyone know that the company was sold over the weekend. You are so correct. I have very good friends that had same experience. CEO told two of them. No way am I shutting company down; when they got back to NY, he left in his limo and security came out to corporate jet and told the pilots to clean out their lockers the flight department was shut down for good and company sold. ZN1300 Posted May 30, 2018 #83 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Please watch at the highest resolution possible, including on a 4K television (The format in which I filmed). Enjoy [emoji4] ~Bob https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmCdKjjN4xKZqMWKSwbqq_ygPR8Qa2RW5 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk DW and I boarded the Pacific Princess in Venice when you disembarked. If you look at my signature you will see it was our first Princess cruise. We had heard so many good things about Princess so we decided to give the line a try. I'm just going to say this is MHO. Don't get mad, I know many of you have had wonderful cruises with Princess and I'm not trying to offend. And will try to make this short. Your video of the crows nest was great. Our opinion of it was that it smelled a little musky and those green cushions you see were less than comfortable and, again this is our opinion, looked as if they came from a college dorm dumpster. When we boarded, we had a burger which was a bit gristly. Having heard about the great food on Princess, we were surprised. But it was a burger so no big deal. After a few meal in the lido and MDR we thought we would spend the entire cruise eating desserts which were enjoyable. But meal got better as the cruise progressed. On the first day on the ship we made a reservation in the steakhouse for the evening of my DW's birthday ( a big one ) When we arrived for the dinner we were told they had no reservation for us. They said, "Perhaps you made it for another date". I'm pretty sure we know when she was born. After some fumbling around they did seat us and it was a good meal. We had purchase the premium drink package, or whatever Princess call it. DW does really drink alcohol, so it was mostly a soda here and there. When she ordered an orange fanta we were told that was extra. We told them we have the drink package and was told that only applies to what they have available as a fountain drink. If it was in a can it was extra. We were told that since we bought the drink package online they wouldn't honor it. We bought and they accepted it so we have a contract that should have been honored. Then they told us that the policy changed since we bought it which is truly not our problem. Then we were told that it was a directive from Seattle and there was nothing they could do about it. The was a B2B cruise with the middle port being Rome. This meant there was a new lifeboat drill in that port. Some new arrivals had their drill in the MDR. The problem with that was they had people eating or waiting for their food at the same time. They were chased out. Some were die hard Princess customers and they were not happy. The club world dining (or whatever they call it) was in the MDR just as you entered. They would cook food right in the aisle that everyone passed going to eat or leaving. We were in 8002, a mini suite. It was OK except out suitcases would not fit under the bed. Also there was an intermittent noise that our room steward heard (wonder guy) and a number of passing bridge officers heard too. It sounded to me like a bearing going bad in a motor. At the beginning of the cruise it would wake us but over the month it became familiar and we would sleep through it. All this being said, we will probably try Princess again in the future. We met some wonderful people just like we have on other cruises. We do feel that the management of this ship was not up to snuff. There are ships we will not book a cruise with. The NCL Sun, which was horrible and the NCL Star. The Star turn the crows nest into suites which makes more money for them and less attractive to us. We have found that if a suitcase does not fit under a bed when the suitcase is closed, we open it and it will then fit under the bed even though it takes more space that way. A thorough opinion, thank you for offering a diverse view. That said-do you have a copy of your booking which indicates the advertisement for your drink package? It would be wrong to blame Princess for not honoring something unless it can be proven that they had done something wrong. At the time you booked, what were the written promise from the cruise line of what your drink package included?

It would be wrong to blame Princess for not honoring something unless it can be proven that they had done something wrong. At the time you booked, what were the written promise from the cruise line of what your drink package included? Between the time the AIBP was a part of their booking and the time of sailing, Princess switched to the newer drink package. Princess said at the time of the new package announcement that everyone with the AIBP would be switched to the new package. I am sure somewhere in the contract of passage Princess is allowed to do things like this.

I am sure somewhere in the contract of passage Princess is allowed to do things like this. That's one of the advantages of being on CC. We also have cruised (twice so far) with a package that was booked as AIPB and changed to the new package before sailing but because I read CC we had no surprises. Recently Celebrity raised the price of their Premium package by what (after gratuity) amounted to $4.70/pp/day. Someone on CC found out about a week in advance (there wasn't much notice given) and those of us on here were able to lock in our packages BEFORE the price increase. I feel really badly for those that booked their cruises with the expectation of one price and get on board and find out it'll be another.

I noticed that in the Grill and the Italian Restaurant (minute 1:36 and 1:46) there are bars. I wonder if they might make a nice quiet alternative for a pre-dinner drink, even if not dining in one of those restaurants. (Also - on the larger ships, there was nicer wine offered in Sabatinis that we couldn't get elsewhere. I wonder if that might be the case on the Pacific also)
