What can I expect from Princess that is different from Carnival

You'll Enjoy the Panama Canal cruise on the Coral. It’s a nice sized ship. Easy to get around and never feeling crowded. Having a balcony going through the Locke’s is a thrill.

We enjoyed the food in the dining room, buffet, and all the venues. Our room steward was great, and I have found most of them on Princess are attentive.

I’ve never been on Carnval but find the staff on Princess more attentive than on another line.

Enjoy!

My first thought when I saw the title was... "A clean cabin and ship". I've been on a few Carnival and I'm not going to down play it.. but the last cruise I sailed with them the cabin and the ship was dirty.

We tried three times, and only once crew couldn’t clean fast enough. When on Liberty there were about 1200 kids (kids clubs simply didn’t have a space to accommodate most of them). But food, service, cleanliness were not reasons we stopped cruising with Carnival.

In some reason we found an ambience to be completely lacking.

No vibe... and we aren’t snobs by any means. Sailed with 8

Iines many times. Thank

Can one expect

Wow, that one's still up on you- tube. I would have thought Princess would have had that one removed years ago, but since it was an actual event, they can't say much about it.

They did have the spoof one about a couple sitting at a dining table and she's thinking that he's going to kill her removed.

I wonder if this Carnival video will last long?

I didn’t know that rooms weren’t serviced more than once per day on other cruise lines. I’ve only sailed with RCCL and Princess. Good to know! I’ve been very happy with the room stewards on Princess.

Only on Carnival and this started recently.

Guests still have an option to get service twice a day, but default is one.

  • 2 weeks later...

We have sailed both lines recently.

Found MDR service to be faster on Carnival - the little difference of having bread on the table versus delivered to the table maybe? Shorter turn times without the tablecloth?

We prefer the enclosed closets on Carnival over the wide-open (but bigger) Princess closet spaces. Stateroom layout, beds, bathrooms and vanity/counter spaces were comparable, considering the cabin categories. (Don't get me started about the weird shower/toilet arrangement on NCL!)

Casinos felt the same. Specialty dining/steakhouse the same. Room stewards -- can't credit or blame an entire line based on the service from one human.

On Carnival, we thought more people were trying to get every last drop out of their vacation... loading their plates at the buffet, making towering ice cream cones, carrying plates of cookies/desserts back to their cabins, and stuffing their pockets with fruit. Not that everyone ATE all they grabbed... dishes/glasses seemed to be stashed in corners on deck, in hallways, etc. half full of food or drinks. IMHO, if there were more places for people to PUT dirty dishes (and more trash cans) there'd be less stashed in out of the way corners.

Yes!! The best dessert at sea! We will board the Ruby in April. I hope I can convince someone to make me a melting chocolate cake. 🤞🏼

Princess has the Volcano. It’s on the kids menu, but anyone can order it. Just tell your server. It’s a loaded hot fudge sundae.

One difference is that Carnival will put more butter on your dinner table :).

Hank

You can have all the butter you want just ask for it. Once the butter is on the table, it has to be thrown away if not used. Princess is simply trying to reduce the amount of butter that has to thrown away.

Finding this thread interesting since I have a Princess cruise in April and a Carnival one in Dec.

Carnival lets each guest carry on a 12 pack of soda. Does Princess have a similar policy? I tried searching their website, but couldn't find anything other than bringing on 1 bottle of wine.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Princess allows you to carry on as much soda and bottled water as you wish. Only alcohol is limited.

When I initially read OP's question, I had lots of potential responses. Unfortunately, each cut back brings Princess closer to it's less attractive cousin line IMHO. The latest seems to be paying for priority boarding...similar to Carnival's FTTF. Fine, if you board after those in the Elite lounge (who have paid tens of thousands over multiple cruises or suite purchases). If allowed to board first......that's a slap in the face.

You can bring all the soda you want onboard Princess ships. Don't know about this year, but Carnival hasn't allowed bottled water to be brought on board (at least in Seattle) since about a month after the Alaska cruise season of 2016. It might have changed for this year, I'm not sure yet.

We like the beverage service in the buffet on Princess. The buffet on Carnival felt more crowded because there were so many people walking around getting water and tea. When we ate in the Horizon Court on Princess there was usually a server taking our drink order within 1-12 minutes after we sat down with our food. Carnival had a very similar selection of food every night in the Buffet, but Princess had new things every night.

Princess has trivia contests almost every day.

We liked the comedy club on Carnival. Princess usually has comedy acts, but not as often as on Carnival.
