Husky1987 Posted February 25, 2018 #26 Share Posted February 25, 2018 Love a good pork chop!! Can you get it for lunch? We'll be there next February on Adventure. [emoji485][emoji484][emoji482][emoji491][emoji494][emoji493][emoji483] Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk Yes, you can....had it for lunch last month. Bob is right, it’s a lot of food. The crispy fat ring around the (top in your pic) edge has been one of the best things I’ve ever eaten...all three times we’ve been there. And the Mofongo is also delicious. nicoleskr Posted February 26, 2018 #34 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Punto de Vista Rooftop Restaurant is by far the best place for mofongo. The one's at Barrachina's were sub par. Perhaps in comparison, but I still dream of the mofogo at this rooftop restaurant. It takes a bit to get, but the drinks are stiff if that's something you like. MrSnarkyPants Posted February 26, 2018 #35 Share Posted February 26, 2018 On recommendation of the college student who led our cocktail walking tour we had dinner at Princesa Gastrobar. It's all outdoors under huge trees and is very pretty. We had a great meal there. Entrees ranged from $15-30; the menu is heavy on seafood. It didn't feel like a tourist trap. Rare Turtles06 Posted February 26, 2018 #37 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Had a fabulous mofongo lunch at Raices, then went to Barrachina's for piña coladas before returning to the ship, thus hitting two wonderful places in one afternoon. :D
skiiergirl Posted February 27, 2018 #38 Share Posted February 27, 2018 What is the best local restaurant in San Juan? Sent from my iPhone using Forums I haven't done enough restaurants in San Juan to judge but we loved Casita Miramar. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk We just discovered Casita Miramar a few months ago. It is fabulous!!! It is now our “must do” restaurant. Very reasonably priced. Delicious food. Delicious sangria! Also, if you like chocolate - Casa Cortes. I might have been mistaken; according to different sites, some list the San Juan episode as SE3EP08 while others say it is episode 7. Either way, a search for "Man vs Food San Juan" will return the results.

BrentD Posted February 27, 2018 #43 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Two of our favorites when we stayed there a few days in 2016 were (for dinner) La Jaquita Baya, which wasn't too far from the convention district we were staying in; and Bistro Cafe in Isla Verde for brunch. Bistro Cafe is the first place we're headed via Uber when we port in San Juan in April on the Oasis. San Juan is such a great foodie destination that you really need to spend time in and not just a port stop. We also did Raices one day when we were in Old San Juan. It was a nice place for what seemed like an authentic meal, but not overly impressive to me as far as taste (mofongo)
bouhunter Posted February 27, 2018 #44 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Raices gets decent reviews. For us though a HUGE pork chop isn't high on the list of priorities when dining out...... If in the Condado area, Orozco is good authentic local food at reasonable prices.
alfaeric Posted February 27, 2018 #45 Share Posted February 27, 2018 So do you think Raices is close to authentic PR food? Some have told me it's just for tourists and locals would not go there. It is actually both- at least for the Old San Juan location. There are two other around the island which have the same food. We (more my wife, since she's from Ponce- I just love eating in Puerto Rico) thinks the food is really good, and well represents the food you can get in Puerto Rico. Since it's also well known, it's an easy place to recommend. And it's very tourist friendly. We also try the similar restaurants on either side of Raices, and find them quite good as well. The only thing that you would miss, IMHO, is the super fresh fish you can get along the water front restaurants around the island. It's really close, but not exactly the same. (conversely, some of the tourist drinks are better in San Juan than other places on the island)

MindyJohn Posted March 3, 2018 #48 Share Posted March 3, 2018 LOVE to hear about your Junior Suite from January 20, 2018!!! We have our first booked for Bermuda the end of June beginning July for our 30th anniversaryI had to cancel that cruise. Went to Vietnam instead. But today I board AOS and will be in one. The extra space is so nice plus a walk in closet and bathtub. Most of the time I'm completely happy with a balcony but this time I caught a great price for the JS. Enjoy!!!
