dmdiver Posted February 26, 2018 #26 Share Posted February 26, 2018 The shortest I've done was 5 nights. I feel that is too short - seems like just as I get the layout of the ship down, it's time to leave. I much prefer 7-8 nights.
kdawg954 Posted February 26, 2018 #27 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Short cruises are great for long weekends where little to no time off/vacation from work is used, singles and friends type of cruises and if you just feel like having a party/drink atmosphere. If you have to fly in, I wouldn’t waste my time. I live within 45 minutes of 3 ports (PE, POM and Port of Palm Beach) and I often get deals that are too good to pass up. Black Friday that just passed I was able to book the 3 night NCL Sky for $790 for 2. That price included the drink package, tax and tips and $75 OBC. Now I did have to pay 3 nights parking in Miami so that was $60 (could of got a ride but meh for just 3 nights) but heck you pay more than that when you fly in and taxi to/from a port to the airport. I will say the service lacked, the free food was underwhelming and the drinks were limited call brands but the private island day was fantastic and the drink package worked on it and the ship atmosphere was fun. Speciality restaurant was great. All in all for roughly $400 a person, I feel like I got my money’s worth and no time off was used. But certainly longer cruises are more desirable for vacation. The worst cruises are those 4 night Mon to Friday ones. Yes they are cheap and often lack kids in the non summer months but you have to use a week worth of vacation time. There are Sat to Sunday cruises that are 8 nights and the same amount of vacation time gets used. Much rather go that route.
CJHAN Posted February 26, 2018 #28 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Shortest I've done is 5 nights and even that is to short. Might as well not even unpack. Sent from my SM-G935P using Forums mobile app
ProgRockCruiser Posted February 26, 2018 #29 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I am trying to decide between a 3 night on Liberty out of Port Canaveral (7 1/2 hours away) or 4 nights on Elation out of Jacksonville. ( 5 1/2 hours away). I live near Port Canaveral, so a 3-day for us is pretty easy. That being said, our next three cruises are 4, 8, and 5 day cruises. For you, with Jax closer, I would take the 4-day: the extra day will be nice, and the slightly shorter drive will be an added bonus. EDIT: though to be honest, a minimum 5.5 hr drive would really make we want to find a longer cruise, like a 5 or 6 day...
uncleg Posted February 26, 2018 #30 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I say yes, my first cruise was a 3 day...way to short....13 cruises later my last cruise was a 3 day...made for a perfect weekend get away with friends, it was also a spring break cruise, never ran into a rowdy crowd that trip. It was on carnival Sensation.
Kyndal93 Posted February 26, 2018 #31 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I only live 30 minutes away from Port Canaveral, so it’s pretty easy and cheaper to go on a 3 day cruise for the weekend. But I wouldn’t say I prefer them, the longer the better!. 3 Days just goes by too quick but it’s nice to do for just a little weekend getaway. As it would get expensive to do 7 Days more than once a year for me and I have trouble saving vacation time like that lol Sent from my iPhone using Forums
mek Posted February 26, 2018 #32 Share Posted February 26, 2018 If I lived somewhere close to a port, I'm sure I would occasionally do a quick getaway weekend - why not? It would be fun to throw a few things in a carryon and have a couple of relaxing days , but since I don't I would never do a 3 night cruise. sc4125 Posted February 26, 2018 #33 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I do them all the time. But..I only live 45 min from the port of Long Beach. I treat them like a Vegas weekend if you catch my drift. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I live 30 min. from Tampa & an hour from Pt. Canaveral. Just got off the 7 day Miracle 2 days ago in Tampa - it was a Premier Casino cruise. I told my sister, pretty much all of our time is either in the casino when it's open or hanging out on deck relaxing during port days. This was my 20 - something cruise and I use to work onboard many years ago - so I've been to most ports (especially Western Caribbean) many times with little desire to "walk around". Although I really like the 7 + day cruises, I have now decided that, unless we are with other family members and plan to spend time in port (maybe once a year or two), the two of us need to take advantage of the quick 3,4, or 5 day cruises and call them what they are - a casino trip with free food and time to lay around the pool and relax. dolita22 Posted February 26, 2018 #35 Share Posted February 26, 2018 We live a couple hours from POM and I can't convince myself to do a 3-night cruise. Too quick. A 4-night Monday-Friday cruise would be better because at least we can feel like we're gone for the better part of a week.
Bookworm1985 Posted February 26, 2018 #36 Share Posted February 26, 2018 too short for me with the amount of travel involved. if I lived closer to a port I definitely would though for a quick get away.

If you have to use vacation time, a 4 day M-F cruise vs. a 8 day Sat-Sun cruise is essentially equal from that perspective, so I am taking the cruise with double the length. jordanaire Posted February 26, 2018 #38 Share Posted February 26, 2018 3 day cruise? Heck no! You no sooner unpack your luggage then it's time to repack it. Nothing less than 7 days for us. Sent from my LG-LS993 using Forums mobile app

ProgRockCruiser Posted February 26, 2018 #40 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Well on a 3 night cruise, I probably wouldn't even bother to unpack. How much does anyone need to take for something that short? Well, um, on the other hand, I did unpack. It took all of about 3 min, and that included hanging up my dress shirt, pants, and tie to make sure they stayed nice for the elegant night.
