SirRedman Posted March 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Both of my cabin mates want to get their hair braided while in one of our ports (Roatan, Belize, Cozumel). Has anyone done this, and if so, which port do you think would be best?
robtulipe Posted March 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Likely Belize as I believe hair braiding was being done where the tender docks and at a nearby market which was across the roadway in front of the tender terminal and around the corner to the right. Rare lazydayz Posted March 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Two of my GDs had their hair braided in Cozumel earlier this month while we were at Paradise Beach. The braiders were next door and charged one $60 (whole head, waist length hair) and the other $50 (shorter hair). It does take some time, probably close to an hour. I don't think it matters much which port you choose, as long as you negotiate price and have adequate time.

Rare lazydayz Posted March 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Take your own comb! Ok, I will bite. Why would people need to take their own combs?
roadburner Posted March 30, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Combs may not be adequately sanitized. In a word LICE!!

Coralc Posted March 30, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Watch out for head lice. Sanitizing standards may be different in other countries.
topnole Posted March 30, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Hmmm, do you bring your own to your stylist or just use the one provided? They are sterilized at a licsensed stylist. Not necessarily on an island near the dock on a sidewalk. Not that hard to understand.

Has anyone done this, and if so, which port do you think would be best? My Grand Daughter had braids done - looked very nice and she showed them off when she got home. Then upon removing discovered her fine hair broke along the hair line and it took months to grow out so there wasn't a frizzy hairline.
gerif Posted March 31, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 31, 2018 If I really wanted braids, I think I’d visit an ethnic hair salon before leaving home. To be perfectly honest, I’ve never seen a non-ethnic woman who looked decent in braids with the possible exception of Bo Derek.
proggieus Posted March 31, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 31, 2018 also keep in mind that the now freshly exposed scalps will burn faster than you can blink.
Cally671 Posted March 31, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 31, 2018 I just had some braids done in the Bahamas and they look great. I didn’t burn in the exposed areas. I didn’t get my whole head done but even just the one side looked wonderful. And it is more ethnic then going to a salon before leaving Sent from my iPhone using Forums
