Do Slot Machines take cash

How do they pay out?

(poorly is not the answer I am looking for.) :(

It goes into your casino account on your sail card that you have to set up prior to playing. When you want to cash out, you have to go to the cashier or just leave it on your card for next time. You can play with the money "banked" on your card or insert more cash into the machine. The machine will not give you money back to cash out.

I have searched for this answer and have not been able to find it. Do slot machines on the ships take cash anymore or do you have to use your Ship account.

Put your key card in and register whether you use cash or your on board account.

You need to cash out at the cashier/casino window and enter your pin,

I WILL not tell the story of how foolish I was when I finally won and couldn't figure out what to do. I hadn't used my card or pin. :')

They are happy to take cash but do register and get the "points". There are casino discounts on cruises fo those that play enough ;)

Ok, we won't say poorly. On the other hand, if you give me a dollar and I give you 90 cents change would you be happy? But that would likely be a better return then most get from slots...especially on ships. I could even make "ker chink" sounds as I give you your 90 cents :).

In Vegas, the slots pay about 92% - but on cruise ships it is likely about 80% or less. What I find amusing is the number of people who claim that they regularly come out ahead in shipboard casinos. The one verity is: the more you play, the more certain it is that you will lose.

The sad thing is that, nowadays while you are gradually losing your stake, you do not get to enjoy the occasional clanging of coins into the hopper when a pull does pay off.

So here is the real mystery about gamblers. Most will tell you they are winners. But, the casinos keep reporting amazing profits and the casinos owners seem to be quite comfortable :). So somebody is not telling the truth. My Daddy once told me the only sure way to win in a casino is to own it!

My DH and I enjoy spending our evenings in the casino. We are not high rollers by any means, just the slots. However, we rarely win and when we do it's it's just a small jackpot. We're thrilled if we break even and I really can't remember the last time that happened. The main reason that we gamble each and every day on the ship is because somehow we became eligible for the casino rate a few years ago. Since that time our casino rate has saved us at least $1000.00 each cruise. So we keep on feeding the slots, lose a couple of hundred and save many hundreds on our next cruise!

You may be among the few very fortunate. The fact is that the more one "plays" in a casino, the more certain it is is that he/she will lose. For the operator of a casino to give "X" in value (discount on cruise fare) to make sense, that operator must believe that he will make more from the gambler than it costs him to entice the gambler to sail.

Operators of casinos are far more likely to know the REAL cost/return of enticements --- be those enticements the occasional payout or the occasional fare discount, than is the optimistic player - whose instinct is to more clearly remember the few $100 (or even several $1,000's) won than the far greater aggregates of smaller wagers pumped into slots or laid on tables.

Selective memory is a real boon to casino operators.

Are the casinos open every nite. I know you have to be in international waters but how does that work on an Alaskan cruise?

In port, no; within minutes of shoving off, generally, yes. Slots will often run 24 hrs on sea days travelling between ports. Table games, time varies.

On a 7 day Inside Passge round trip, you will have at least 4 days where casino time stretches from early dinner seating to late night, including two full days
