Rare sparks1093 Posted June 28, 2018 #26 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Why would they do that ?There are plenty of "lightweights"that currently drink an average of 7 alcohol drinks per day at the regular price..Carnival started offering drink packages to increase profits not as a way to save people money.. I doubt they will ever offer a "Cheers Lite" package.. Pretty much this. 7 alcohol drinks per day is at or above the break even point for Cheers as it is currently priced. One needed drink all 15 allowed drinks to get their money's worth.
NoHoosier Posted August 21, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 21, 2018 If you want to stretch your bang for the buck, factor in Fosters Oil Cans which are 25 oz each or Long Island Iced Teas. Fifteen of either of those will give you a buzz. If I ever meet the person who can suck down 15 properly made LIITs and still be upright I will be in awe forever of them. Rare BlerkOne Posted August 21, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 21, 2018 They need to have a cheers package that is half 7 drinks per person at half the price of the full cheers program. for those who would not drink 15 drinks in a day each. I think they would sell more packages this way with 2 options available. They might sell more packages but certainly would be making less money. A package for half the drinks would have to sell for almost the same price as the original.
Can'tWait2SetSail Posted August 21, 2018 #29 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Why is someone always trying to reinvent the wheel? Cheers is a good deal if you were going to consume several drinks (alcoholic and non) a day. If you are not, then don't get it. Save money that way. PhillyFan33579 Posted August 21, 2018 #30 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Interesting how so many people believe Cheers was implemented to benefit passengers, not the cruise line. Do some passengers benefit from this program, no doubt about it. But Carnival would not continue this program if they weren't benefiting from it financially. SadieN Posted August 21, 2018 #31 Share Posted August 21, 2018 ......... A package for half the drinks would have to sell for almost the same price as the original. So true. Ate at a deli the other night. Half a salad or half a sandwich was only $2 less than the full sized portion.

And I can only imagine the number of calories I’d be drinking just to make sure I got my money’s worth. I can totally see myself doing that. I don’t buy Cheers but I never limit myself on any drink I want. I save both money and calories that way.
lasekeye Posted August 22, 2018 #33 Share Posted August 22, 2018 I too think a lesser drinks pkg or one that isn’t as restricted as Bubbles is a great idea. We won’t drink the value of the regular Cheers, nor use the Bubbles to its extent as I don’t enjoy pop, but quality iced tea &/or milk shakes would be great. Therefore, we stick to free beverages or bring aboard our own pop (we don’t like wine). If there was a different drinks pkg we would purchase that.....and add to Carnival’s coffers. SNJCruisers Posted August 22, 2018 #34 Share Posted August 22, 2018 A package that included all of the non alcoholic options of the Cheers package for say 18.00 a day might be an option that would satisfy those that are not alcohol drinkers but want something other than what bottomless bubbles offers. Brandi36 Posted August 22, 2018 #36 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Lol I guess "selling" isn't the same as sharing lol#loophole It just annoys me my husband doesn't drink so I can't buy the cheers package ...I think this needs to be changed! LakeWobegon Posted August 23, 2018 #40 Share Posted August 23, 2018 I would be willing to bet that the average cheers customer drinks 5-7 alcoholic drinks a day. So to offer a package with a lower limit would significantly cut their revenue from cheers since almost everyone would take it. What the other lines offer and would be more feasible is the cheers package with up to 15 drinks worth up to $50 per day and a lower level package of up to 15 drinks worth up to $8 per day. Sent from my iPhone using Forums This is us. I never feel pressure to get up to 15. If you like to drink the premium brand spirits during the day and wine at dinner, you can easily make Cheers "worth it." Two glasses of $10 plus wine at dinner and a $12 port with dessert every night and you're 3/5 the way to "breaking even." All it takes then is a latte and a few drinks during the day and you have surpassed the $51.95. I like vodka tonics and so one day ordered three Grey Goose VX tonics at the Casino bar at $17 each to bring back to the pool each time I ordered them. You can do the math. That alone brought me to the Cheers daily payment without the evening wine. The next day, I ordered four $9.50 Zaya Cokes and so on. That's more than many drink but I do that on vacation and I don't feel like I have to limit out to enjoy myself or "break even."
bunchesofun Posted August 23, 2018 #41 Share Posted August 23, 2018 <snip> C) 50 Drink coupon for the entire cruise (or more or less, but you get the idea) for a $400 or so. Unused drinks are non-refundable. This would allow couples to "share drinks" while still offering a bulk purchase option. While I doubt any of these would actually happen, these would be slightly more realistic of ideas. They used to offer the drink coupons and that is what we would buy. We really liked that program. But then they discontinued it.

Brierpatch Posted August 23, 2018 #43 Share Posted August 23, 2018 I think a better package option is based on number of days, not number of drinks. 1-5 day cruises keep Cheers as is 6-journeys cruises, have a more economical drink to price ratio. Reason being, up to 4 or 5 days Cheers “is worth it” to me. But at some point you have to take a breather! $955 drink package for a 8 day cruise is near impossible to be “worth it”. Or at least to me! Just my opinion. Save your breath telling me how wrong I am. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

audcc77 Posted August 23, 2018 #45 Share Posted August 23, 2018 Interesting post. I don't think I have heard of someone not getting Cheers due to saving calories. I never thought of it either until someone on here mentioned it. I always have what I want on vacation and never count calories even at home or vacation. But if you’re getting the Cheers package, that’s got to be a lot I’m guessing. Otherwise I’d seriously think of doing it.
AAAAmerican Posted August 24, 2018 #46 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Dear TEXSUN46, Prepaying is wonderful for any cruiseline and/or firm. EG: Even in tips look at the amount of passengers and the tip monies.. what a FLOAT.. I noticed your estimate on bottled water. A FYI: Even reatil I get ours at a Monroe County, Rochester , NY HQ Firm named Wegmans. Here in New Jersey we have a no deposit on bottles cans, containers too. No Slaes Tax on Bottled water either. I just purchased a few cases packed 35 for my mum and us. The cost per bottle was under a Jefferson Nickle. Carnivals cost I wager is less than 2 cents per plastic bottle.. On fountain soda guess what the cost is including container and straw? It is about 6 cents. Profits have to be in Commerce. But I wish Carnival would let us , again, bring our own bottled water aboard. Not some lame excuses like " oh some people put vodka/gin etc.. in them .. " Cheers just allows you to prepay for your alcohol, whether you drink 5 a day or the limit Carnival still makes money. In reality no one is going to break even, sure some will spend less than they would buying by the drink. Carnival is going to make at least $5 per beer sold and with mixers factored at least $50 profit on every bottle of booze. Carnival probably pays about .25 per bottle of water, and very few would drink enough coffee, energy drinks or milkshakes to cut into their beer and liquor profits. Cheers is a good value if you consume enough, and only if you would be consuming that much anyway. It would not make sense to get it just so you can drink more than you would normally. Cheers is not for me, I might drink heavy two out of 7 days, but I don't drink every day at home and I won't drink every day on vacation. Now if they were giving it away that would be whole different thing :)

SNJCruisers Posted August 24, 2018 #48 Share Posted August 24, 2018 But I wish Carnival would let us , again, bring our own bottled water aboard. Not some lame excuses like " oh some people put vodka/gin etc.. in them .. " The excuses were not lame. It took extra labor to shake all of the water bottles to prohibit the smugglers from getting clear liquor on board in their water bottles. Carnival sells water by the 12 pack at a reasonable price for those that need it and you can still bring on 12 packs of canned soda if you wish. At least Carnival is not gouging cruisers like NCL is by charging exorbinate prices for their one liter water bottles.
