Koningsdam smoking policy

Can anyone, who has recently been on the Koningsdam, tell me the current smoking policy in the casino. Ship Services says smoking is limited to a small area of slots. No smoking at the tables and most of the slot area.

We spent two weeks onboard Koningsdam and we love this ship. However, even though the smoking is supposed to be limited to a specific area of the casino, people wandered all over with their cigarettes and their ashtray. No one I ever saw was told to go back to the smoking area, no one was asked to put it out. It didn't really matter, because smoke travels and the entire casino smelled of smoke most evenings. There were a couple of non-smoking evenings and the casino was packed on those evenings. Perhaps, because this was a Med cruise, there were more passengers who smoked.

HAL still doesn't seem to understand that, even if it was to enforce its policy limiting smokers to a small area, the smoke itself can't be constrained in an open area such as the casino. Consequently, even as you approach the casino you start to get the pervasive smell of smoke.

On our recent cruise on the K smoking was permitted at a blackjack table where some very "high rollers" were playing.

I think it's more of a smoking "suggestion" rather than a "policy". Really never enforced.

HAL refers to it as its Smoking Policy in the 2018 version of the KBYG document, but you are are right about it never really being enforced.

When we asked the casino manager about the advertised "non smoking nights" on the K last year, we were told that active players can smoke anytime [emoji44]

Hope that has changed.

Well, that's not fair! I don't care whose playing and how much they're betting, non-smoking means just that. As I said, they never enforce the policy.

The current smoking policy specifies "Designated areas for active slot players" and then goes on to make exceptions for several ships. No mention is made of non-smoking nights on the Koningsdam.

 

 

• Casino – Designated areas for active slot players in Casinos. ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Westerdam and ms Zuiderdam casinos are completely non-smoking. ms Noordam Casino is completely non-smoking, with the exception of two nights per cruise

Staff was vigilant in monitoring the no-smoking sections on the Koningsdam last October. Perhaps the current staff is somewhat timid.

With the exception of the round white tables in the foreground, all the seating you see here is in the designated smoking area:

In that respect is it any different from the "policy" regarding chair hogs? Has anybody ever observed the staff clearing the sunlounger chairs after a period of nonuse?

There was at least one no smoking night in the casino on the Kdam last week.  Maybe HAL has realised that smokers market is decreasing for some reason. 🤔
