tcudarling93 Posted July 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Any recommendations on the Sun specialty dining? We have a credit and want to use for the best food! Anyone have sample menus from their cruise - either specialty or main dining?
RaiderDuck Posted July 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2018 This will be our first time on the Sun, but based on our previous experiences onboard the Star and Jewel, your best bets will be Le Bistro, Cagney's and Teppanyaki.
dexddd Posted July 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Teppanyaki is going to be hard to get on the Sun as I don't think they let you book it in advance. It also used to be just one table so you'll have to book first thing on board if you want a chance.
Pens fan Posted July 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2018 While we didn't try Le Bistro or La Cucina (for dinner anyway), we loved Teppanyaki and Cagney's on the Sun. Moderno was just ok, though. I agree about making reservations as soon as you get on board for Teppanyaki. It's tiny and we were not allowed to book ahead of time. We were in a suite, though, and I made a request with the pre-cruise concierge so we had no issues getting our preferred reservation. If not in a suite, book as soon as possible on board. RaiderDuck Posted July 17, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Strangely enough, we were allowed to book Teppanyaki yesterday for our cruise on the Sun in November. Maybe it's because our cruise is so far in the future and they do carry a limited number of book-ahead seats?
Rare GeezerCouple Posted July 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2018 We love Le Bistro. We also think that the Coq au Vin is a real sleeper. The flavors that have been simmered are *really* good, and the meat is tender and moist. (This may be be a dish that many people have ever had, but it's really worth trying here.) We both agree with this, and when eating out, we usually go for things like Prime Rib or a really good steak. (Or classic duck a l'orange, which is getting harder and harder to find, and it's a real ordeal to prepare from scratch at home :() We also think the filet at Le Bistro is much better than at Cagney's. (Yes, we know that they are supposedly the same cut, but *something* is very different, and not nearly as good at Cagney's.) GC
casofilia Posted July 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 17, 2018 From the rest of NCL ships we have been on, not the Sun yet, we choose Le Bistro and Cagney's first and then Moderno.
Rare BirdTravels Posted July 18, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 18, 2018 Strangely enough, we were allowed to book Teppanyaki yesterday for our cruise on the Sun in November. Maybe it's because our cruise is so far in the future and they do carry a limited number of book-ahead seats? We have advance booked Teppanyaki on the Sun. But, it sells out really quickly since they only have a couple of tables.
newmexicoNita Posted July 18, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 18, 2018 Depending what you like in the way of food all the specialty dining rooms are good. It pretty much goes without saying: Cagney's and Le Bistro are the favorites.
