Rare Crew News Posted July 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2018 Definitely Days 2 and 9. No Gala Nights on last night at sea, when in ports during dinner, and not while in ports close to dinner times.
adrift@sea Posted July 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2018 Most likely Day 2, possibly Day 5 (since it is a 11-day cruise), and Day 9 (Christmas Eve). There is a possibility that Day 10 (Christmas Day) could be an optional Gala, but I doubt it. We have experienced Gala Night (I believe it was still Formal night then) on the last night of a cruise, as well as, on the first night of a cruise--I believe both of these were on Eurodam and over Christmas/New Year's. We have also experienced a Gala Night when the ship had a later departure and was in port over dinner. My recollection is that these exceptions occurred during Holiday Cruises. Deep in the underground, there are a rag-tag, yet well accoutred who still call it "Formal Night."
rkacruiser Posted July 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2018 I agree that Day 2 probably will be Formal Night. On every HAL Christmas Cruise on which I have sailed, Christmas Eve was a Formal Night. I was surprised that Christmas Day's dinner was not, but my traveling companion and I made it Formal Night anyway. And, nobody gave us the "evil eye". I think the issue is that we're back in port on the 26th.
arzz Posted July 20, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2018 Dec 24th is usually the formal night on HAL holiday cruises that we have taken, add Day 2 (HMC), and your mid cruise sea day - would be my guesses.

Krazy Kruizers Posted July 21, 2018 #12 Share Posted July 21, 2018 On recent 10 and 11 day cruises we had only 2 Gala nights. You should have them on the 2nd and 9th nights. Christmas Eve on HAL has always been a dress up night.
Infi Posted July 21, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 21, 2018 Agree with days 2 and 9, especially considering that 10 is the day before disembarkation. Have done 5 Christmas/NYE cruises on HAL and Christmas Eve is always the formal night.

Krazy Kruizers Posted July 22, 2018 #16 Share Posted July 22, 2018 I'll be curious to see if HAL has another Gala night the 5th night of the cruise since this is a holiday cruise.
