mom2girls29 Posted August 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Can you recommend any excursions you took while on the southern caribbean cruise? We are very interested in Aruba and Curacao .
phoenix_dream Posted August 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2018 I would recommend you post this on the appropriate Ports of Call boards for a better response. You may also want to join your Roll Call and see what others on your sailing are doing.
Duanerice1 Posted August 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2018 We are renting a car on both islands. I can get a car for less than booking most excursions. We are free to stop and shop, snorkel or just hang at the beach. In port late so it makes it a bit easier. And I agree, go to the roll call of your sailing and the ports of call boards and you'll get some good ideas.
Out of Here! Posted August 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2018 We are doing the Triks in Aruba. Nothing planned for Curaco but walking around lots. Husband is going snorkeling while I help their economy by shopping in Bonaire.
OT-Miami Posted August 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2018 We are visiting the ABC Islands for the first time in October and have found so much helpful advice on these boards that I feel pretty confident about our plans. We reserved the Rugged Natural Pool Safari with ABC Tours Aruba and the All West Beach Hopping Tour through Irie Tours in Curacao. Both companies have excellent reviews on CC and TripAdvisor and were very easy to book online. While I can't offer a first-hand recommentation, I do suggest that you check them out on their specific port-of-call boards as well as the reviews on TripAdvisor. Enjoy your sailing :D
Rare Cruise Raider Posted August 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2018 In Aruba, we loved the trip over to DePalm island ... very family friendly, too. They even have helmet diving there for an additional charge. Water is gorgeous for taking a dip, lunch was really good, margaritas served for the adults, salsa dancing lessons, massages on the beach, volleyball, palapas for shade, loungers in the sun, a water park area for the kiddos (small but they all looked to be having fun), etc. After returning, we still had plenty of time to get cleaned up and peruse around time, try out luck in the casinos. In Curacao, my favorite trips (there are two that tied), was a visit to the Curacao Factory with tastings followed by a trip to the Sea Life / Flamingo Park. On another tour, we visited the Hato Caves ... so interesting but so very hot. This was followed by a walking tour but we were just way too hot so the bus driver took us back to the ship. I still love seeing the caves ... not for anyone with mobility challenges, though. They are above the ground but a few tight spaces on uneven surfaces to get through. If by chance you are going to Bonaire, we had a couple of great tours there as well. One was the 'best of bonaire' stopping at the salt flats and slave huts, we went to the most beautiful beach for a nice cold drink, stopped along the way at all the sights, complete with wildlife (so many flamingos). Another time, we did the drift snorkel with sea turtles over at Klein Bonaire. Both fabulous tours. Oh...and if your cruise also includes Key West, I highly recommend the Hemmingway House and the Little Truman Whitehouse walking tours. You could accomplish both in one day and both are within walking distance of the ship ... albeit, a good bit of walking but doable.
39august Posted August 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Was the "Best of Bonaire" a ship tour, please?
Baron Barracuda Posted August 21, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Last summer on Bonaire dw and her friend rented a golf cart from Bonairecruisers.com. They got the cart for whole day for under $100 and were able to explore the entire island at their own pace. Bonaire is small so they had time to see everything. Had a ball. phoenix_dream Posted August 21, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Just another comment about southern Caribbean islands in general. You will find that these are islands that you can very safely, and much more cheaply, do tours on your own. Either pre-book with someone you find well-rated online, or wait until you get to the port and there will be tons of people offering various options for MUCH less than the cruise ship's. 39august Posted August 21, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 21, 2018 I'm interested because I have lots of OBC that is unrefundable. So a ship tour is what I want in Bonaire.
Duanerice1 Posted August 22, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 22, 2018 I'm interested because I have lots of OBC that is unrefundable. So a ship tour is what I want in Bonaire. Brave soul - that still wouldn't sway me to book a ships tour. I'd take the OBC to the casino and play. Take any winnings and buy a non ship tour :) Either way, I am sure you will enjoy yourself.
