NCL Upgrade Advantage - Haven - Do you still get butler service?

No, it is not true. It has come up before, so there are a number of people who don’t understand the bidding process. The concierge, butler, private bar and restaurant (on some ships) are all part of the Haven. You win a bid, you’re in the Haven.

You don’t get any additional perks (booze, dining, shorex credits) you may have received for booking directly - you keep your original perks. However, the butler, etc are benefits of the room, not perks.

It’s the same as bidding and winning a spa cabin. The spa access is part of the room. If you’re in the room, you get it.

I'm considering bidding on an upgrade to a forward facing penthouse in the Haven and was told that the butler service would not apply nor would dining on the Haven restaurant? Is this true? It would hardly seem worth it.

The information you were given is totally incorrect.

If you win a Haven room, you are in the Haven. You get the butler. You get the concierge. You eat in the Haven restaurant, lounge, bar, sundeck, sauna, pool, etc. etc. etc. You are a Haven guest. Just like the person sitting next to you who paid $10K per person in their room.

I have no idea where these rumors start. No one on the ship knows how you ended up in a particular cabin. If you are in a certain cabin, like a spa cabin or a suite, or the Haven, you get the amenities that are attached to that cabin. This would include the butlers, the concierges, the suite dining room, spa access if in a spa suite, etc.

What you do not get are extra free at sea benefits. With those you get the ones that you had when you booked.

zqvol, surprisingly, my Priceline rep told me that you don't get all the advantages when you bid. I'd say it starts with third party booking sites, and those who don't really know. That's why I'd rather as seasoned cruisers and dismiss the rumors! :)

No offense to Fantasia5915, but you need to get ta more knowledgeable TA, those people clearly don't know enough details to be trust worthy.

If I bid on an upgrade to a Haven suite, will the free cabin gratuities I originally had (group booking) still apply? For the perk selected it says gratuities on mini-suites and below. I understand the gratuities charged in suite cabins are higher. Will I just pay the difference or do I lose it altogether?

I think the confusion is the term "perks". When you receive an upgrade, you keep your original Free at Sea perks/promos from your original booking, but you do not gain any more. If you book a balcony or mini-suite, you typically receive two Free at Sea perks. If you book a Haven directly, you receive all four or five available for the sailing. However, if you upgrade to Haven from a balcony or mini-suite you only get your original two perks, not all four/five like you would have if you booked the Haven directly. THAT'S the difference.

Room "perks" like spa access, butler, concierge, Haven restaurant, etc. go with the ROOM, not with the passenger. So, if you get upgraded, you gain all those room perks and LOSE any room perks from your previous room. So, say you are in a Spa Balcony and upgrade to a non-Spa Haven, like an H5. You lose your spa access, but gain all of the Haven room perks.

Nope. You get the double points for being in the Haven. At least we did in April.

Not on an upgrade to a Suite, Haven or not.

Straight from the Latitudes page:

You will earn one point per cruise night and an additional point per night if you book in a Suite* or in The Haven™, or if you book with a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer.

*For full fare Suites booked at the time the reservation was originally made. Does not include mini-suites. Does not apply to upgrades or upsells. If you receive a free or discounted upgrade to a Suite or The Haven you will not receive Suite points. Rewards points are not applied for Cruisetour nights or hotel stay nights. Guests sailing with Friends & Family rates and/or Casino cruises will earn points.

We can only credit your Latitudes account with missing points for cruises taken within the last 12 months.

We uograded in April from a balcony to the haven and I was surprised to see 14 points added when we returned. I thought we would only be getting 7.

Has anybody ever slept in the sofa bed in a haven suite? We are two single women and I guess (amazingly) not of the suites have beds that split into twins..... So we are considering getting one of the suites with a sofa bed but were wondering if one of us would be unhappy? Anybody know???

Which ship and what category? The couches/sleeping arrangements for more than the first two can vary quite a bit but generally is some type of flip out sofa.

Are you sure you didn't get the extra points because you booked during a Latitudes Insider Offer?

You get 3 points/night if you book a suite during a Latitudes Insider Offer. I think you used to be able to get 4 points/night if you also booked more than 9 months in advance.

It would be the Breakaway - and we are looking at Haven suites. The issue is that we are two single woman and do not want to share a king bed. Apparently, unlike in normal rooms, the king beds in haven do not split into twins - so one of us would have the king, the other the sofa bed. My question is whether any adult has actually slept in a haven sofa bed to know if it would be comfortable - sometimes sofa beds are, but other times they are not.... Since the haven is so expensive, we hate to have one of us uncomfortable.... Thanks for any insight.

The king beds in the Haven are really big so very easy to share and extremely comfortable. I can't imagine a sofa bed would be nearly as comfortable. I have no personal experience though. If you insist on sleeping separately, take turns. Do a coin flip to see who gets first and last nights in the king. And be sure to request an egg crate foam mattress cover for the sofa bed. I get one for the king too.

Another thought is to split the cost 60/40 with the person getting the king paying the most. We did that at Disney World once with my brother-in-law and his wife. We got a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk so we agreed they would pay less for the smaller second bedroom.

You have the Haven 2BR option with a separate bedroom. The DOS also has a sofa bed that our kids used and it was pretty comfortable but the room is super expensive and the wall leaks noise. Are you set on NCL?

The key word here is USED - the 9 month booking program points is no longer ***

*** some cases of bookings made prior to February 2017 may still be on the books and eligible.

So as you have noted the most you can get is 3 points a night

1 - for cruise

1 - being in a suite haven etc.

1 - for booking an Insider Offer
