Rare Radio Posted September 13, 2018 Author #27 Share Posted September 13, 2018 (edited) Hello everyone . . . I left Hampton Inn (near the George Washington Bridge) at about 11AM. The traffic was very rough until I crossed the bridge. The trip down the West Side Hwy was quick. I made it to Pier 88 in about 30min. I parked on Pier 90, and walked over to Pier 88 with my luggage. The security check went very smooth, and the check in process took only a few minutes. I walked onboard Carnival Horizon at about 11:45. The process was very quick with minimal interference. It always nice to board the ship. . .even for only 4 nights. I walked around a bit to see some of the ship. . . I know I have 4 more days to see things, but I think it may just be a conditioned response for cruisers to snap away on boarding day. I have YTD tonight in the Meridian MDR at 5:30 and I really could use some Chocolate Melting Cake. I still need to check out the Welcome Aboard Show and then try to find Horizon Casino. Here are a few pics from embarkation. Radio I made it on board . . . The Tides Pool is on Deck 9 AFT The Lanai Area on Deck 5 looks comfortable I had to enjoy a burger from Guy’s Burger Joint Oceania Insignia is docked at Pier 88 with us. Rare Turtles06 Posted September 14, 2018 #28 Share Posted September 14, 2018 And with the aid of a pair of Moran tugs, she is safely into Berth 2 of Pier 88...the Oceania Insignia is in Berth 1. Later, the HAL Zuiderdam will arrive at Pier 90.... Um, no. My wife and I were aboard the Zuiderdam, on a 20-night cruise that began on Aug. 24 in Copenhagen and was scheduled to dock at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on September 13. A week prior to arrival, when we returned from a port call in Greenland no less, we all received letters in our cabins stating that we were being bumped to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal because of repairs being made to Pier 90 at the MCT. (Maybe because HAL is owned by Carnival Corp., the ship never told us that the Horizon had damaged the pier.) With limited and slow shipboard wi-fi, we had to scramble around to deal with what for some of us was a significant change, with no offer of help from the ship. (I can tell you from having disembarked yesterday in Brooklyn rather than at the MCT, it made our day longer and more complicated.) I was very surprised to learn that the Horizon was docked in Manhattan yesterday and was not the ship bumped to Brooklyn (especially if such a change would not have affected passengers already at sea). I wonder if this was Carnival Corp’s decision. At any rate, none of this is on the Horizon’s passengers of course, and I hope that Radio and everyone else on board has a great cruise! Rare Radio Posted September 14, 2018 Author #31 Share Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) Hello everyone and good morning . . . Welcome to DAY 2 of “LIVE” from Carnival Horizon. We are currently “steaming” ahead toward Bermuda at 19 kts. The weather this morning is warm (75F) and cloudy with no rain. The ship was really rocking last night and some passengers suggested that this was due to the outer bands of Hurricane Florence, but officers I spoke with seemed to differ. Today is a “Fun Day at Sea” and there are many activities to see and do. I had a delightful dinner last night at the Meridian MDR and I used my Carnival Hub App to book my reservation. It is easy to do however, you are unable to book your table number but you can book your time and passengers. The App will notify you when your table is ready. The Auto Elevator system is just how I read it would be. There seems to be some concern during embarkation day, but today things are much smoother. Note to Radio: walking up the stairwells from deck 3 to deck 11 several times will make your knees feel like spaghetti. I want to attempt the slides today in the water park and the Sky Ride. There will be a Port Talk today at 11 AM which I must attend. Why is Carnival Horizon having a Caribbean Shopping Show in the Liquid Lounge? I didn’t think Bermuda was in the Caribbean. Thanks for tuning in . . . Radio It looks today will be a cloudy day. . . Rare Radio Posted September 15, 2018 Author #39 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Hello everyone. . . I was happy to see that the sun came out today. The weather was warm and the ship rocking has slowed down quite a bit. We had no rain, with “partly” sunny skies, and the temps were mild (75F). After yesterday I was thinking we may have 4 days of rain and winds. The sun brought out passengers to the pool decks. The pools were filled, and Dr. Seuss Waterpark was busy all day. I didn’t try the slides but plan on it tomorrow after I get back to the ship. The SkyRide was closed today for maintenance but the Rope Course was steady all afternoon with passengers of all ages. The Sports area and Mini Golf was popular as well. I was happy to see that most kids were enjoying themselves with the great weather. Tonight was elegant night and I enjoyed Lobster in the MDR. I was surprised to see that they offered lobster on a 4 Night Cruise. I really like the Chocolate melting cake but passed tonight because I read information from the book “Secrets to a Flatter Stomach” and it was suggested that I should cut back. We are scheduled to arrive at Bermuda by 7AM. We should be able to see land by around 5 AM as we approach the Dockyard. It appears that we may be joined by Seven Seas Navigator during a Port stop on her 17night journey from Barcelona. She may be docked in St. Georges, Bermuda. I plan to go ashore around 9AM and explore the Dockyard area, It has been several years since I have been to Bermuda and I am sure there may be some new things to explore. Here are some images from today. . . Radio I was glad to see some sun today. . . There were a few clouds, but it was much nicer than yesterday The sun and warmth brought new life to the ship. . . The Tides Pool was packed The pool was a welcome reprieve to the warm weather The main pool was very busy as well .

Rare shof515 Posted September 15, 2018 #44 Share Posted September 15, 2018 was there any delays getting off the ship? I noticed people were getting off the ship about 30 minutes after the ship docked. Usually after about 5-10 mintues of the ship being fully docked, people start getting off
Rare Radio Posted September 15, 2018 Author #45 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Hello everyone. . . Welcome to Day 4 of “LIVE” from Carnival Horizon. We are currently docked alongside of Heritage Wharf, at the Dockyard in Bermuda. We were tied up at the pier by 8AM, and all passengers have been cleared to go ashore at 8:45. The Crew has suggested multiple times that all passengers must have a photo ID with them before they are allowed off of the ship. That announcement may have been broadcast a dozen times so far. . . The weather so far is very nice with sunny skies, and a warm breeze. There is a 30% chance of showers today, but keeps your fingers crossed for no rain for about 8 hours. All passengers must be on board today by 3:30PM for our 4PM sail away back to New York. Here are a few pics from our arrival. Radio We see land as Seven Seas Mariner approaches St Georges I am viewing from Deck 11 FWD A freighter passes close to us on her way to Hamilton We pick the Pilot We navigate the narrow channel Carnival Horizon approaches the Pier slowly . nybumpkin Posted September 15, 2018 #46 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Tonight was elegant night and I enjoyed Lobster in the MDR. I was surprised to see that they offered lobster on a 4 Night Cruise. I thought about this, as we're booked on a four-day Bermuda cruise next summer on Sunrise. Most of the itineraries out of New York are longer (7 or 8 days) and I suspect they may not stock the items Carnival usually serves on elegant night on the ships that regularly sail short intineraries. So it's lobster, even though it's a short cruise. Thanks for your "live" report - really enjoyng it!

BENHANDEL Posted September 15, 2018 #48 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Your pictures of the pool area....was that as "packed" as it got? Or were you being sarcastic? We were on a Disney cruise a couple years ago where it was pratically shoulder-to-shoulder in the pool (only the youngest bothered) and all the comments on here about the pool crowds make me expect the same. Of course, we are sailing at Christmas so it may be a different comparison...

sanmarcosman Posted September 15, 2018 #50 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Hi Radio, another follower here. I see cabin # 2220 on your boarding pass but you say its a spa cabin? Im in port hole cabin 2207 on deck 2. How can the cabin numbers be so close to the same? following too, im booked on Vista I would like to know this as well. I have 2220 booked on the Panorama and it is a PT (2 port hole cabin) on deck 2 and not a spa room. The deck plans for Horizon show all cabin numbers beginning with 11 that are located on deck 11 as the OP's luggage tag indicates. Also, 2220 is on the port side not starboard. It wouldn't be the first time Carnival IT messed up.
