JADE CRUISE CANCELED DURING CRUISE

We are in the Owners Suite onboard.  So at least we have a nice room.  Information is very scant. We are all “quarantined on the ship” however.  They will not grant shore leave.  This part sucks as I would like to go into San Juan and enjoy the day.  Will post when we hear something.

At least you have 3 bottles of booze to drown your sorrows.

Having been in a situation with future cruise credit offered note it will be of your base cruise fare most likely.

Sitting on tarmac with 5 other buses waiting and waiting to load charter flight. They’re trying their best given the situation. All passengers are being pleasant and we just want to get home. My husband and I were called at 10 am to be ready by noon as our flight was departing at 4 pm. We were also told a NCL rep would be with all of us to escort passengers to the buses, on the bus and on the plane. We have not seen one NCL rep since we scanned our ship card during disembarkation. More information would be helpful for those of us trying to book flights home from Miami. I was down at guest services at 7 am and they told me at that time there was room on the 4 pm flight.

I honestly don’t know.   Pure speculation: as the ship is hopefully eventually arriving in Miami in time for the next sailing maybe they will allow pax who have special needs to stay on?

We have booked a hotel in PR to stay till Saturday and booked a light to fly back to Miami.   I know that flight will be reimbursed but am not sure how to inform NCL of our flight information and cost.  Or is there a deadline for that.  The guess service line is 1.5 to 2 hours long.  It would be more efficient if they posted answers to some faqs in stead of answering pax one by one.

I wouldn’t have minded experiencing their charter flight once but then we don’t want to waste more of our vacation days than necessary.

This situation is a perfect example of why good travel insurance is a must.

We were on the Dawn a few years back at Thanksgiving when we lost engines and were adrift for a day , we regained a bit of power but limped into San Juan.  Luckily this happened 2 days before the end of the cruise.  NCL Arranged flights for us but it took 3-4 days to get all out as it was Holiday time.   We were allowed to stay on the ship if we wanted.

We opted to book our own flights and stay a few days in San Juan, Insurance covered it all

Thanks for the update. This is a perfect example of information that we wouldn’t know from NCL or the shipper staff. Safe travels! Please keep us updated what happened next as y’all are the first ones flying out.

That question would have to be addressed by NCL. I recall that in a similar situation Carnival made alternate arrangements for passengers unable to fly. There was a fair bit of delay involved for those passengers.

Great decision to stay in Puerto Rico and fly back after Thanksgiving.

Don't bother with guest services on board for the flight reimbursement.  It all has to be submit online with NCL Miami.  Here is the link from NCL's site: https://www.ncl.com/case-submission  Attach your receipt and boarding passes. Keep a copy of the letter you received about the reimbursement for your records.

We booked hotels and our own flights when the Star had its propulsion problems last year.  The flight reimbursement came in the form of a check in about 3-4 weeks.  The refund of the cruise fare went straight to the original credit card used as did the shore excursion cancellations.  The credit for a future cruise goes on to your Latitudes account.  Reimbursement for hotels, meals and other items have to go through your travel insurance.

So very sorry for the cancellation of your cruise.  I would probably not be as positive as you all.

We are booked on the Jade  Nov. 26 to Panama Canal also.  Since we are driving down from Ohio I hope we get info soon as to whether or not this cruise will go.  I was going to use today to pack but will probably wait now.

I guess there is little concrete information what is really wrong with the ship, length of time to fix, get parts, etc.  This is my 36th cruise and it has never happened before.  I have been lucky.

Be safe on your travels home and book those replacement cruises soon so you can put this behind you.

I wonder if you get word of a cancellation for your cruise would you be able to book another in its place? I wish the best for you 🙂

We are finally on plane. Everyone had carry on bags searched and each person was hand scanned with wand for security, 10 people at a time getting off bus for this security check. We are about to take off. We have a large plane that does have first class for certain suite guests if their concierge requests for them. Told us we should be landing in the domestic flight terminal in Miami. Hope this helps!

Ps...we never saw one person from NCL!

The personnel handling the motorcoaches between the port and the airport are under contract with NCL as there is no permanent NCL staff in San Juan, other than its port agent and other contractors, and especially when a mere port call turns into an emergency debarkation.  Debarkations under normal circumstances take days if not weeks of logistics planning.  Imagine what these people are going through with a last minute call.  Nothing like what you passengers are going through, obviously, but they're trying to help you get home as quickly as possible.  Also note that because it is Thanksgiving week, hotel rooms in San Juan are difficult to come by at the last minute.

Update...we are still sitting on plane waiting. People are getting frustrated and irritated as we don’t know what the hold up is about and many have connecting flights in Miami. Be sure to give yourself extra time for those on the second charter flight to make your connection in Miami. Everyone involved is trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

I'm so sorry, and hope you make it home safely soon!  It is really unfortunate this took place over Thanksgiving; otherwise it would have been nice to extend a stay on San Juan (but as noted above its probably really hard to find hotels now).

To get an air traffic control clearance for a non-scheduled flight into MIA is also a complicated matter.  They have to sequence air traffic into the MIA air space, and scheduled flights have first dibs, having previously arranged their clearances well in advance (days).

Considering the rumour of a drydock in Freeport, Bahamas is true and the Jade will be travelling at 5 kts, it will already take 7 days at sea to get from SJ to Freeport. Repairing may take more than a few days so I highly doubt the following cruise will take place.

Omg I’m so sorry to hear this! We are still on the ship.

In previous events, they made special arrangements for those that were truly unable to fly (e.g. medical reasons).  It usually involved having to wait for space on another cruise ship stopping in that port that was sailing back to the mainland. I know in previous events Carnival put people on RCCL and NCL ships that had availability.  I imagine NCL is doing the same.  But those people would definitely have to make sure NCL was aware of their issue, because the general expectation will be that you will be accommodated on those charter flights.

The second charter, with Miami Air, will depart from the main airport terminal, terminal B, not general aviation like the previous one.  So, there will be more facilities to handle the large number of passengers, including security.

Again, personnel will have to be scrambled to handle this flight so it will not be like a normal airline check in.

I would imagine it would be the domestic terminal since it is a domestic flight.  San Juan to US is not international travel...

Good luck.

They just announced over the PA system that they are preparing the list for a third flight tonight. No one wants to be called or it since they won’t get to Miami till 1-2 AM and won’t have time to eat dinner.

We just got off the ship. We were called at 530 to be off by 6 for a 10 pm flight. Puts us into Miami around 12 or 1 am probably. If we even take off on time, because I read about the 4 pm flight that didn't take off until almost 5 I think.

Fingers crossed we can get in fast.
