Sun’s now peeking through the thick, fluffy white clouds.  Just finished a downpour a few minutes ago.  Not sure what’s going to happen with the flyover excursions or the trips to the outer reefs.  Keeping our fingers crossed!

Did laundry earlier this morning because the 60+ people who went on the overland excursion to Uluru are coming back today. I’ll bet the laundry room will be busy—especially as people are finding out that no tokens are needed as of March 4 when we boarded in Sydney.

Had a great shorex on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, followed by a ride on a duckboat.

After that we saw their wildlife park, where you could see the animals Australia is noted for.

 

Had a quick bite at Waves, played a fast game of Baggo, then went back ashore to see the town.  Did my “mission”, and then did a little shopping, and got a screw replaced in my reading glasses.

 

The day was a mix of sun and clouds, with occasional showers here and there.  Not bad at all...

 

Berthed behind us is Hapag Lloyd’s Europa...an older sister of the Europa 2, that we previously shared a port with...😎

For our day, we took a tour to Kuranda and the rain forest. Saw an aboriginal dance, spear throwing, a guy playing the digereedoo, and got to try throwing a boomerang (boy, was I bad...so I bought one to practice at home with the grandkids). Took a duck boat tour into the rain forest and learned about all the venomous plants and animals. The big round dark thing in the tree is a huge termite nest.  While in Kuranda, I bought a beautiful Australian Opal necklace. 

 

I got to mark something off the bucket list...I held a koala!  Rocky is 6 yrs old and was born and raised in captivity. He was very sweet and gentle...so soft and cuddly. He snuggled under my chin and looked up at me with his darling eyes!

 

After a tour around Cairns (pronounced "Cans"), we went shopping, visited the casino and got a massage.

It turned out to be a fabulous day for snorkeling!  We went on the Skedaddle jetboat just down from where we berthed.  36 seats and I’d say at least 30 of the 36 passengers were from our ship.  It took less than an hour out to Hastings Reef where we saw a lot of colorful coral, huge colorful clams and a great variety of fish.  The boat had stingersuits for us, along with snorkels, masks, fins, noodles and vests.  We were out there for 2 hours.  This is a great way to get to the outer reefs because there’s less chance of getting seasick if you sit in the back of the boat.  It really surpassed our expectations.

Beautiful opal necklace.  Your collection keeps growing, but they are small items so won't need too large a bag to haul them home!

 

Cbb..  my Dr Dave is doing quite well.  We'll be doing a cruise in the Fall to see how it goes...Seattle to Miami and back to SFO on Regatta.  It will be the first cruise after the big renovation.  Hope we don't have any issues:)  We've seen most of the ports, but we love to be at sea!

Palakika--good news re; your dr dave!  And YAY, you're cruising again! 

 

The older i get the more i love cruising.  Also  dave and i like somebody else  cleaning bathrooms/bedroom, preparing the meals AND cleaning up, entertaining us, and saying"look where we've brought you today" and then providing a shower spot and drinks at the end of the day --plus they do our laundry.  What's not to love!!! 

 

Our ATW friends and I think O retire on board--just keep ATW going for 12 months--(with ATW benefits) & it's probably cheaper than retirement homes!!!  Plus we could take care of each other!

Great idea to live on the ship.  I guess there is at least one such ship,  but it wouldn't be O!

 

Go-Bucks..  loved your pic with koala.  It was a highlight for me too, to hold Chloe my sweet koala.  We did it at the Lone Pine sanctuary in Brisbane.

Jerry and I will be joining the Insignia in Singapore and disembarking in London.  I've been doing a lot of research for every port but now need help.  I really like the excursion below but need 12 more people to join us.  I posted it on another board where I read a suggestion to post it on the ATW19 board.  Of course, I'd love it if you and Connie would either help me find fellow passengers to join us and/or join us yourselves.
