cabinluvn Posted March 4, 2019 #26 Share Posted March 4, 2019 Last time it wasn’t added to my offers, I called and they said there was nothing they could do. Another time, it was on my card, but not my husband’s card. Again, they said there was nothing they could do

comcox Posted March 4, 2019 #29 Share Posted March 4, 2019 I found the offer for my Amex Optima card ($100 credit for $500 spent) and clicked to add it. However in the terms and conditions it seemed as if the offer only applied to booking a cruise. I wondered if I could use my card to pre-pay shore tours for my upcoming HAL cruise that I've already booked?
Moriah Posted March 4, 2019 #30 Share Posted March 4, 2019 This will be my first time paying for a cruise with my AMEX card. I pay through a TA. Does AMEX still register this as a payment to a cruise line (so can I expect the credit?) TIA.

When you get on board go to the casino cashier and they will give you $500 cold cash. No strings attached. Peter This is a method that worked Dec 2018. I will repeat just once more here. It works. It's worked for me even after booking a cruise months earlier, I used it to make a $500 payment on an existing cruise. Used for a HAL cruise and second time around on a Princess cruise. That's how our TA does it, but make sure for there may be some who do not do it that way.
lcand1923 Posted March 4, 2019 #34 Share Posted March 4, 2019 I have the Hilton Honors American Express. It was not in my offers and it did not appear when I used the link. Stateroom_Sailor Posted March 4, 2019 #35 Share Posted March 4, 2019 I wonder who is actually paying the $100? Amex, HAL, or "World's Leading Cruise Lines"? Not that I don't appreciate these offers, but I wonder why they don't make sure that it is a new booking?
PigsCanFly Posted March 5, 2019 #36 Share Posted March 5, 2019 I found the offer on my gold card for buy $500/get $100 credit, and on my blue card for buy $500/get 10000 pts. I used each card to make payments on an existing HAL cruise. Hopefully both will work, but at least one of them. I will have paid the balance by May anyway. Keep each in an open tab, and add them at the same time, safest way to double dip without the offer disappearing.

I like vacation Posted March 6, 2019 #40 Share Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) I just received a notice of changes to the terms of my Amex account in the mail. It concerns the definition of a cash advance. Amex is expanding the definition, effective May 1st, to include travelers checks, gift checks, foreign currency, money orders, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar offline and online betting transactions. The fees might put a dent in the $100 promo if you purchase $500 of casino chips in the future. I like vacation Posted March 8, 2019 #42 Share Posted March 8, 2019 Finally got around to checking my Amex account and saw that the $100 statement credit was posted yesterday. Thanks again for the reminder. BTW, I purchased $500 shipboard credit.

You should also be able to use it for the casino as there are no restrictions placed on the shipboard credit that you purchase. I asked HAL that as well. I can't remember if it was Carnival or Celebrity, but when I tried this before, they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about, nothing they could do. I also don't mind fanning all my credit through the craps table towards the end. 🤠

We only have FF miles but have now gotten a card where we get points. Is it, for instance, so many points per dollar of reservation? And, if so, where do you get that info - from the airline, hotel, restaurant, etc. or from the credit card? Once you are logged into your Amex account, there is a tab that says something like Redeem Points. You can use them for gift cards, Amazon purchases or exchange them for hotel or airline points. You should look for something that gives you at least a penny a point. Some redemption options, like Starbucks cards are almost 2 points per $0.01. We're kind of partial to Capital Grille cards, but only because there's one nearby. Look at the site The Points Guy for excellent advice on getting and using points.

Also, keep in mind that Onboard Credit can be used to pay for your Daily Service charge (tips). In my experience, each ship handles this OBC issue differently, so it is best to check on it after you board. Sometimes I get to use my HAL OBC toward my casino charges (billed directly to the cabin from the slot machine) while sometimes they do not allow it. Typical HAL inconsistancy. Did you have to chat with somebody to have it added? I have the delta gold Amex card. Last time the offer was available I tried using the links people provided and couldn’t get the offer added. I contacted customer support and they told me I couldn’t get the offer unless it showed up in my offers. I saw this thread about the offer today. I checked my offers and it wasn’t there. I clicked the link and it just took me back to my list of offers (offer wasn’t there). I’m using my iPad, so I touched and held my finger on the link until the “open in new tab” option appeared and I selected that. When I looked in the tab, the offer was there! I added it. Then I logged into my card account and sure enough the offer is on my card! Crossing my fingers that it works. Making a payment later today. Thank you to those who posted the links.
