So if you want to order a drink and have it delivered you need to use a smartphone app?

You can order a drink using the ocean now app on a smartphone.  Or just wait for waiter to come by or walk up to bar and hand them your medallion

Or, as I understand it, order from any of the Medallion terminals located around the ship in public areas. Or, if implemented as originally promised by marketing, from the interactive TV in your cabin.

Worst case if you do not have a cell phone: The Medallion works just like a cruise card did with the additional ability to unlock your door as you approach it.

I dearly wish this one piece of misinformation would be cleansed from OM vernacular.

A cell phone is NOT needed to access any part of the OM onboard experience.

Yet it keeps somehow stays alive and keeps getting repeated.

However without your smart phone you cannot use all the bells and whistles of Princess at Sea. Or the Ocean Ready apps, or the Messaging.

This is where the misinformation sets in. You do need your smart phone to access all the Princess at Sea, messaging, and interactive apps related to the new technology.

I now that Princess is moving to this across their fleet, but can you still get a card to use or do you have to go to the Medallion?  We do not want to carry our cell phones with us when on the ship.  We go on a cruise to get away from technology.

If you have a smart phone you can set it to airplane mode and not be bothered with the outside world, but you will be able to take advantage of all the applications associated with the medallion. I found it very handy to check the schedule onboard. As stated by others you do not need to have or use a smart phone to use the medallion.

Each person who has a concern if they want to use their smartphone. Full disclosure;  yes you can have a great time without a smartphone: but, if you want to use wifi, use the ocean now app and such you will need a smartphone.  Before you comment just think of this:  it does not matter which way you choose; smartphone with apps or no smartphone and use digital touch screens around the ship. Bottom line. Have fun no matter which route you choose.

The Medallion is not the apps.

I notice everyone mentioning ordering medallions and having them before they reach the ship.  I believe that is only if you are living in the US, can someone speak to how this works if you are coming from outside the US?

Do you still download the app before hand?

Is there a special line to pick up your medallions?

Does it matter if you are Platinum or Elite?

Thanks,
Kim

Akacib,  you can pickup your medallion at the port.  There are lots of ocean medallion personnel that will help you. You can download the Ocean Ready app prior to arriving at port. Basically once you have this filled out you will then have a barcode attached to you that will be scanned at the port. Your status will not matter. If you are platinum then you get into platinum line to  check in and get your medallion.

Thank-you so much.  That is great to know.

Have a great day.

I seem to be having an issue with the app. It shows everything green but when I go to get the pass it shows I’m incomplete - yet my mom’s is fine. Any ideas regarding what might be the issue?

Go back into your ocean ready app and put in all your info again including passport info. When I did mine in February I found out my wife’s middle name was miss spelled once we changed that everything turned green. Her passpot middle name was misspelled in the app.
