As for stretching the existing dock at Freeport, given the age of the dock, and the fact that it isn't merely length that is lacking, but lifting capacity, which means volume, you would be likely cheaper to build a new dock.

 

Thanks.  Do you happen to know if they have scrapped the drydock that failed in Freeport or are they trying to repair it?

From RCI's first quarter earnings call, they are apparently repairing the dock, but it won't be ready until 2021.  My ship will be in one of the smaller drydocks there in November, will try for a report.

At the end of this article about Carnival breaking ground for a new pier in Grand Bahama, there's this snippet:

During the groundbreaking ceremony, there was more good news for the Bahamas. Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald announced the company would be building two of “the largest floating dry docks ever built” at Grand Bahama Shipyard. 

 

I assume this is sorta an update to the announcement almost a year ago in this article:

This may eventually affect some of the ship schedules (shorten their out of service time).
