Pirate’s DREAMy Dysfunctional Family Vacation Review...April 21-28, 2019

Recommended Posts

Originally, the family had planned for today to be a “sea” day since our ship was anchored off the coast of Belize. I am not a huge fan of this port, Mom and Dad didn’t really want to do the long-ish tender ride, and Tame Uncle had heard not-so-great things and said he would relax onboard. However, with our stop in Roatan being canceled yesterday, everyone had decided that we would get off and just walk around the port area at least. We planned to meet at the Alchemy Bar at 10:15 in the morning to disembark.

The rooster came crowing bright and early at 8, so he, Chris, Tame Uncle and I headed to Lido for some breakfast. When we stepped onto deck 10, I saw that the CHOGS were already in full force this morning!

I went and got a breakfast burrito from Blue Iguana, and the others hit up the buffet. We snarfed down our grub, then went to deck 5 aft to meet up with my parents. In hindsight, we really should have chosen another location to meet up as this turned out to be the tender sticker pick-up point, but oh well. I figured we would meet up and then head to the Crimson dining room where the Priority passengers were to go to be escorted to the next available shuttle, but we waited for about 30 minutes and saw no signs of my parents. What the heck, were they standing us up??!! During this time, Tame Uncle decided that he wasn’t going to go ashore after all, he was afraid the tender ride would make him seasick like the ship had. Sigh. Looks like its just me, Chris and Crazy.

The 3 of us headed down to Crimson just as they were packing up the sign that said for Diamond, Platinum & FTTF folks to meet there. The workers told us to just head to the forward elevators to go down, so we did and we had no wait whatsoever, we were on a tender within 2 or 3 minutes. The ride over was quick and painless, maybe 30 minutes.

The three of us spent a few hours wandering the port shops, and just as we turned to head back to the ship guess who we see? Mom and Dad! Well, how nice of you to join us, you turds! They CLAIMED that they showed up at the Alchemy Bar just 5 minutes too late, but I think they lie. Oh well, I will forgive them. We all wandered back toward the ship, stopping at a few shops to look and buy trinkets. Chris ordered a drink from some bar, which was yummy, and we headed back to catch a tender.

Oh, and for those who are actually reading this and read it thru to the end, here is a teaser for you: Chris and I made a very big decision today in Belize. I was actually excited for the end of the cruise due to this decision, and the ride back home to NC was going to be fun! Anybody curious yet?

Once we were back onboard it was about 1, so we rounded up Tame Uncle and all headed to grab some lunch. I opted for a BLT from the deli, which was yummy. We finished eating and decided that we should all hit the water slides since there wasn’t a line. It was a blast! Tame Uncle was the official hat/shoes/water bottle holder as he wasn’t feeling the urge to free his inner child, the rest of us squealed and whoo-hoo’d all the way down the slides. The unanimous consensus was that the Twister slide is wayyyyy better than Drainpipe.

Since we were in our swimsuits, we all headed to deck 10 aft so the Uncles could get a drink at their favorite daytime bar, and Mom and I got into the pool. We spent the afternoon there just chilling out and drinking, and finally at 6 we decided we should get ready for the 2nd elegant night of the cruise.

We got to the Crimson MDR at about 7:15 and had no wait at all. When we checked in with the hostess she informed me that I had a free bottle of wine, up to $40, due to an issue with my stateroom. Say what? A free bottle of wine for a stateroom issue, what issue is she talking about? The  I remembered the bathroom faucet that wouldn’t drain. That hadn’t been that big an inconvenience, but hey, free alcohol, I will take it! When the waiter came by I asked for the Gifft Rose, which we all shared, and it was pretty good.

While we were waiting for our meals, Gary the Cruise Director came around and asked how everyone was doing. He’s a really nice guy, and he invited us to take part in the Scottish dance class he was holding in the atrium at 9:00. Chris being the smarty pants that he is goes, “I only dance for Fireball shots.” Gary looked right at him and goes, “IF you get up and dance, I will buy you a shot of Fireball. See you there.” Ohhhh, this is gonna be FUN!!!!

For dinner I went with the stuffed mushrooms and Caesar salad as my starters. I adore the stuffed ‘shrooms, yum! I couldn’t decide between the teriyaki (did I spell that right?!) salmon or the grilled jumbo shrimps, so being the fat kid I am I ordered them both. The salmon was AMAZING, but the rice cake that came with it was dry and nasty, and the jumbo shrimps were OK but the potatoes that came on the side were freakin’ awesome. So guess what I did? I ate the salmon and the potatoes together and left the rice cake and shrimps. I finished the meal off with the chocolate melting cake with butter pecan ice cream and a Mocha Chocolate Getaway, and it was amazing. Chris ordered a Funship Special, which as always was awesome. Dinner was a success!

We all ran out of the dining room right at 9:00 for the Scottish dance class. It was being held in the atrium, which was right outside Crimson dining room. Chris actually got up and did it, I think the Funship Special gave him liquid encouragement. Gary had the participants do 2 dances, and at the end he pointed right at Chris and told him to hold up, he had his drink coupon. Heck yeah, Gary is a man of his word!

I ended up calling it a day at 10, Chris and Crazy Uncle went bar hopping. Chris said he was going to be Crazy’s wingman, and he came crawling into the cabin sometime after midnight saying he had found Crazy the perfect woman. Hmmm, maybe I should have stayed up later and went with them!

Hmmm, trip to Disney?  Making a tiny human????  both probably require the same amount of planning.  😄

Loving your funny, laugh out loud review! We are on the Dream in June and love seeing what we can expect to see and do:). You seriously should consider writing a screenplay of the adventures of your family, especially the Crazy Uncle....I’m sure there’s a movie to made here!
