What companies are people using for tours of The Vatican and Colosseum?  BESIDES Tours by Locals which does not interest us to use.  Thanks for all recommendations, as so many companies have negative reviews.

We've booked with Best Rome Driver (bestromedriver.it).  VERY accommodating.  Very personable.  They are more than happy to put together a tour based on what YOU want to do, and they go all over Italy, not just Rome!

Agree completely with Rome In Limo...We did a private tour for just the two of us that included not only the Colosseum but a private tour of the Vatican....Just amazing and would definitely book with them again.

If you are looking for a local guide in Rome and not from the port, I would recommend "Rome with Marisa" Ficorella. She was excellent on our tour of the Vatican in 2017. We met her at the entrance to the Vatican Museum for an early entry tour. We've done several guided tours of the Vatican Museum and hers was the best.

If you are using a car service from the port, like Rome in Limo, they can arrange a guide to meet you at the museum.

Are you looking for a tour from the cruiseship port? If so both RomeCabs and Rome in Limo are great choices.

If you are looking for a pre or post cruise tour while staying in Rome then I agree with rdt10's suggestion of Rome with Marisa.

Joe Banana Limos is also highly recommended. I have used several companies now and really like the guides at Joe Bananas.

You could also get the new fast train and try to Do ON OWN. I have done that as well but did not cover the Vatican.Sometimes it is hard to get to all the sites when you DonOwn

The above recommendations seem to be transportation companies from the port.  They drive you there and you get on the long line to get in.

Perhaps that is what you are looking for.  But if you are already in Rome and want a special tour of the Vatican museum and Coliseum, we recently used "Walks of Italy" for both the Vatican & Coliseum.  They are outstanding!  Have also used them in Venice a few years ago.

They are one of the small-group tour companies approved for special access.  They seem to have special entrance "slots" at both sites.  So we were in the Vatican Museum at 8am (opens at 9) and went thru Gladiator gate and to the underground and floor of the Coliseum (all off limits to general public).  There are other companies also that offer similar tours.

Highly recommended.  The lines for entrance are long and hot.  Don't waste your time on them!

We just got back from Rome.  We used Romecabs for all transports and highly recommend them. https://www.romecabs.com/transferservice/civitavecchia/

During our stay we did 3 tours with Walks of Italy and highly recommend them, also.

https://www.walksofitaly.com/?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjezPoM_a4gIVQpyzCh2djwS9EAAYASAAEgJADfD_BwE.  We did the Coliseum, Forum and Palantine hill one day. Did an evening tour another day. Did the Vatican and St Peters yet another day. Excellent.

Both companies were easy and great to work with.

We are on the Oasis, boarding in Rome. We have Ciro LaMotta booked for Naples. Since he is so well regarded, we asked for a recommendation for Rome.  He recommended Mary Roma (http://www.romecabtransfer.com/) for our 3 days pre-cruise in Rome. I cannot attest to the quality of the tours since we have not gone yet, but his help so far has been outstanding in setting up tours for Rome.

His advice on what are tourist traps vs what is worth seeing has been invaluable. He has also been honest and fair, telling us when we can do tours on our own without having to spend lots of $$ for guides.  Friends of ours were on the same cruise but boarding in Barcelona. They also used romecabtransfer for their one day shore excursion and said it was great.
