Pacific Princess coming.

Thinking of cancelling the circumnavigation on Serenade of the Seas and replacing it with the PNG one.

We're now thinking of doing the NZ cruise. There is a Sapphire Princess Vanuatu/PNG cruise that we're interested in so might do that instead of the Pacific Princess one. I missed the Vanuatu ports on our last PNG cruise as I was ill.

Apparently Princess doesn't always keep it's reps up to date. I was talking to one this morning and she said that they sometimes find things out through other channels before Princess officially informs them.

Re prices, I've just been looking at my spreadsheets with booked and possible cruise options and Princess prices are definitely higher than they used to be.

The Circle South America cruise out of Sydney does stop in Tahiti on the way over and on the way back so there may still be a Tahiti return option.

They certainly seem higher, drop in our AUD and also rising costs of fuel perhaps.

Likewise.

Same. So its happening. Whose going to break it to the Americans. Poor people. I remember the excitement when it was first released. I guess its not selling as well as they expected and they think they can milk more more from the Australians who are known to have a healthy bar and casino spend.

I read elsewhere that she was scheduled to do cruises to Cuba out of Ft Lauderdale but, of course, travel to Cuba from the US has been banned so I guess they decided to redeploy her down here.

I think it's great. I hope the Pacific cruise sell like hotcakes which might tell Princess that some of us Aussie cruisers like the small ships not the big ones.

Probably several factors which might be fair enough on their own but when you take the cutbacks that are happening Princess isn't as good value for money as it used to be.

I thought the recent sale of 12 nights on Majestic Auckland to Sydney (NYE Cruise for 1399 pp inside cabin) to be good value.

Cutbacks?

That's surprisingly good value for a NYE cruise. $116pp per day. Some of the cruises I've been considering have been over $130pp per day for an inside cabin. One is just over $160pp per day. That's getting expensive.

Plus they have new ships going there to replace her.

Last item of fine print in the email from Princess says onboard currency is USD. That means add gratuities and expensive on board costs to those already high prices. LOVE that South America itinerary, but I think I need to win Tattslotto twice.

I just had another look at the document cheznandy provided the link to and on page 6 of that it states "On board currency is AUD, except for Tahiti & Polynesia & Tahiti and South Pacific Grand Adventure cruises." Phew!

On page 4 of that document re the Circle South America it states “On board currency is USD.”  Who knows, these onboard currency questions are getting really confusing. I rang and asked Princess about the onboard currency for the Sapphire Princess May 2021 repo from Sydney to Shanghai. They advised me it was USD and gratuities would be charged. I booked it a few days ago and my online travel summary says it is AUD. Hope that is correct.

It is likely to be USD as it leaves Australia but is not a return trip, however, if booked through a Aussie Ta, gratuities should be included.

Not that confusing. The currency note on each page applies to the cruises listed on that page. So Circle South America is on page 4 is USD, and four of the six cruises listed on pages 6 are AUD with the other two which are specified being USD.

Repositioning cruises can be confusing though. It seem that cruises to/from Australia from Asia are in AUD, but if the ship is coming from or going to other parts of the world it's USD, and I'm not even sure that's a blanket rule you can apply. 🤔

Removal of chairs in balcony cabins, lower quality meat and fish in the MDR, less choices on MDR menus, are the ones I've noticed so far.

Oh yes, the Americans are still going on about the removal of barrel chairs from cabins.  The Love Boat Dream dessert is still on the Princess menu.

But at the end of the day 'Come Back New.'   and broke.

Sorry, but I am still confused. I have never cruised on a ship when the onboard currency has changed. Is it possible to have 2 different onboard currencies at the same time, applying to different people depending on where they board the ship? The cruises on page 6, 2 of these cruises overlap. The Tahiti & South Pacific Grand Adventure is 26 nights departing 24/11/20 and is USD, but overlaps with South Pacific and New Zealand 16 nights from 4/12/20 which is AUD.

How much work is involved in changing the onboard currency? The staff on this ship are going to be busy chopping and changing currencies during this short Australian season.

No there won't be two currencies operating at the same time. It looks like Princess forgot to mention the South Pacific/NZ cruise, which is a subset of the Grand Adventure. Or should I say, the Grand Adventure consists of the Tahiti/Polynesia cruise B2B with the South Pacific/NZ one. The ship should change to AUD on 21st December, when we (hopefully) will board her for the NZ Connoisseur cruise. Then back to USD for the Circle South America, then back to AUD until she gets to Tokyo.

Princess are used to switching currencies in our region. All they have to do is to change the drinks price lists, and any other pricing that is listed on paper, and (presumably) change a setting in their computers for the rest. I saw them doing the MDR wine list change when we cruised to Hong Kong a couple of years. No different to changing the menus each night, just a extra set of papers to go in the folders.
