Hi looking at a Mediterranean cruise with a stop at Gibraltar, looking at port times it shows leaving around 12pm so doesn't give much time at all .Is this the norm for this port?.

Would like to and see the monkeys but I always like to make sure I'm back on ship an hour before sailing.

Thanks

We called there in June this year and arrived about 9.00am and it was all aboard by 3.00pm - 6 hours there, which is fairly normal. (Often it is 8.00am-2.00pm).   Plenty of time to take the cable car up to the Apes Den as long as you get off as soon as possible if you plan to do it on your own.  Otherwise P&O offer tours or there are plenty of taxis and mini-buses offering tours.

Thank you just another ? When in  p o book list of ports like Seville (from Cadiz) what does this mean is that you have to have a coach to Seville Thinking my sister in law who can't get into coaches.

Cadiz is an interesting place in its own right. The port is right in the centre so there is no need for shuttle buses.

Seville is some distance from Cadiz so you would have to take a tour if you want to get there.

Ok thanks do you know about Livorno  port for Florance/Lisa and Civitavecchia port for Rome.

They sell it as these towns but looks like coaches to them , can't seem to find a med cruise without transfers

Livorno and Civitavecchia are the coastal ports respectively which serve Florence and Rome which are inland cities.  You won't find a cruise calling at either of those two.  You have to take a trip or go independently (by train for example) if you want to visit eithe Rome or Florence.

Do these costal ports have things to do or would you need to take transport into bigger towns.

Does anyone know if the buses are wheelchair accessible

We did the HOHO bus tour at Cadiz,& a number of other ports on our cruise, very interesting, good value for money IMO,buses leave right by the port gates, can be booked in advance, after an early tour we settled in the main square for a few very pleasant drinks in the sunshine, really nice!

When a cruise berths at port A mainly in order for passengers to visit inland city/site B it will usually be described in the cruise itinerary as "B (from A)" or sometimes "A (for tours to B)" Usually A will be destination in its own right like Cadiz, but sometimes it will effectively be docks with a nondescript small town attached like Civitavechia. Best to do your homework before you sail.

Absolutely right,Cadiz is a lovely place in its' own right, some cruise ports are not so,do some homework to find out which applies to your ports,I suggest trying Trip Advisor forums as well as Cruise Critic for more info.

Livorno and Civitavecchia are not ( in my opinion ) the most interesting towns. We have docked in both several times and I would advise anyone to take a tour from them.  Florence and Rome are both long, full day tours but worth doing if you have not been to them before.  If you don't want a long day both ports have shorter tours to nearer towns or countryside that are worth doing.

If you don't want to go into Rome, try getting the train to Tarquinia, a medieval town about 25 minutes away on the train.  About 2 Euros one way.

In Livorno, it's very easy by train to Lucca or Pisa.  Have done both.  Cheap and easy.

We tailor our activities to suit our son and Cadiz is a favourite port for us. On our last 2 visits we've caught the bus from the port to the beach Playa de la Victoria as those (beaches) nearer the port can be crowded in August. It also gives us an excuse to go to Restaurante La Marea for lunch (the one featured In Rick Stein's Long Weekends on TV).

We quite like Civitavecchia and recently that has meant lunch in Mastro Titta Pizza then a swim at the Waterpolo club. The port shuttle bus drops off around a 25 minute walk from these places or there is a train station shuttle bus which will drop you off nearby. Sorry but I don't know if the buses are wheelchair friendly.

On our recent visit to Livorno we took our son to the aquarium via an expensive taxi ride. We then had a nice lunch nearby and caught a bus back to the centre (which was way cheaper than a taxi and easy enough to do). Next time we visit we will try the Bagni Lido Livorno.

We have done excursions and DIY'd trips from Livorno & Civitavecchia before becoming parents but know that at the moment long trips won't suit our son so we plan these not too intensive port days instead.

Here's a few ideas and good luck with your plans.
