Mobile Passport at Ft Lauderdale Cruise Terminal

Tom,

Returned to terminal #2 on CB May 2019 and used Mobile Passport. We filled in the app and only had to show the receipt received on the app to the person “guarding” the entry to the Global Entry line. Mobile Passport folks can use this line without having GE...at least that’s always been our experience at Port Everglades. Once you are allowed into that line, you can put away your phone as you won’t be asked for the Mobile Passport receipt, only asked to show your passport.

Of course, things can always change!

Had the exact same experience a few times in PE. Worked like a charm.

We used mobile passport in PE in Feb.  We saved about 15 min wait time.  You can not fill it out until you arrive; it is only good for a few hours.  You can't fill it out the day prior.

We used it on our January cruise on the Regal, we were directed into the line for Mobile Passport and then were required to show our passports and get them scanned like on the non-mobile line. Very strange but no delay time from walk-off until cab headed to airport, about 10 minutes.

That is my understanding of the "plain" Mobile Passport.  Have to input all the info for each trip on your day of arrival.  We really liked the first version where all of your passport info and your picture was stored in the app.  It worked great for us and saved a lot of time flying into Atlanta from London.

Hi Tina,

As usual, you are up-to-date on stuff!!  We have global entry, but this is the first time I have heard of the Mobile Passport.  What is that?

Meredith

The app is a free alternative to Global Entry.

Never looked into either GE or TSA Precheck as we'd have to go to Atlanta for the paperwork.  Or at least that is where we would have had to go when they first came out.  Mobile Passport was a good app to start with.  You were able to download passport info and picture and they stayed in the app.  Now you have to input passport info each time you come into the US to go through the "quick line".  Someone posted that the cost of the app for 5 years was almost the cost of TSA Precheck.  So far, we have been pretty lucky about  one of us getting TSA Precheck when we get our boarding pass.  That person becomes the designated snack food, CPAP and liquids carrier for those items that we carry on the plan.  We find that  having it would be most useful at the beginning of a trip when we have more items you need to place on the xray belt.  Coming home we pack all that stuff in the checked luggage.

Several of us have enjoyed the short lines at Port Everglades and at airport terminals when we have used our Mobile Passport app.  Sorry to report that it will can no longer be used to speed through customs.  Here's the info they sent to me today and I'm hoping the CBP app will be easy (and free!):

News about Airside and the Mobile Passport Control program

Airside is proud to have provided the first and most recognized app for the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) program. Thank you to our government and business partners and our loyal Mobile Passport members who helped us get established.

As of tomorrow, February 1, 2022, the CBP MPC App will be the only app used for the submission of passport and travel entry information to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Most (if not all) of the Port Everglades terminals now have facial recognition.  On our January 2 - 9 cruise on the Caribbean Princess we returned to Terminal 4 (the Enchanted was in docked at Terminal 2).  They had facial recognition until they didn't.  Our ship was disembarking fewer than 900 passengers and about half way through all the facial recognition machines went down. CBP didn't open the designated Global Entry lane. There were more lines for the facial recognition machines than there were CBP officers to check passports (just holding it up and comparing the photo to the passenger) and it was a chaotic few minutes but we were lucky there were only about 4 people ahead of us when it happened. That said, I haven't seen any other similar complaints and it was, as I said, working until all the machines went down.
