clcmdse Posted November 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2019 Does anyone know how far Melbourne city center is from where we dock? We are looking at a tour that goes from 1:30 to 4:30 in town. Our ship leaves at 6:00 p.m., but I hate to cut it close and want to make sure that we would have plenty of time to make it back to the ship. Thanks Catherine
buchhalm Posted November 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2019 The cruise ship terminal is just under 6 km from the city Center. By that I take Flinders Street railway station. On a good day with a clear run, that can be done in a 15 minute taxi ride.
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted November 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2019 It takes about half an hour on the tram. As long as you got to a tram stop, in Collins St, immediately the tour finished you should be back onboard in plenty of time.

It will also be rush hour then and the trams will be busy .🙄

Thanks Catherine Do you know exactly where the tour starts and finishes Catherine? The tram from the end of the pier at Beacon Cove takes approximately 20 mins into the middle of the city. As long as the tour finishes on time, there shouldn't be a problem arriving back in time. A taxi should take a similar amount of time but because it will be peak (rush) hour, it is likely to take longer. All aboard is likely to be 5.30 pm if you are scheduled to sail at 6 pm. This is a link to the tram timetable - just a reminder you will need a Myki card to travel on public transport. https://ptv-prod-timetables.s3.amazonaws.com/timetables/03109/all/ttpdf-vic-A-ttb-TIMINGPOINTS-03109--1573592301/timetable.pdf Information about the Myki card - https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/myki Leigh

I appreciate the factoring in of traffic and logistics. And Leigh, thank you for the important and fundamental question you raised - where will our tour be starting out? We have homework to do! Beanb41 Posted November 16, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 16, 2019 (edited) Your ship will most likely have shuttle buses that run from the ship into the city. The city stop is near Flinders ST station. To access the shuttle b you will as has been advised need a MYKI card. Below is a link to the Public transport people of Melbourne especially for cruise ship passengers https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/events/2019/10/10/public-transport-during-the-2019-2020-cruise-ship-season/ Edited November 16, 2019 by Beanb41
