Greenhouse spa

Yes, the spa is adults only. If you go into the voyage personailizer, there should be a way to book a spa pass, which gives you access to the "thermal suite." That's the hydro pool, sauna, steam, heated loungers.

If you can't find it, call HAL ship services to book in advance. If you do find it online, you may see that it asks you to choose a time. That's just an oddity of the system. Pick any time for the purpose of booking. The pass is good all day.

I would recommend booking the thermal spa in advance.  The price you pay ahead maybe considerably lower than the rate on board.  If it is less on board than what you prepaid you will be issued a refund.  For our recent NA cruise, I pre-booked our couples thermal package and saved $60.

I will be on NA from Dec 7-21 and I've been looking at the spa package for 7 days. I am going solo. The price for a couple is $299 and for one person it is $169.00.  I know that my cruise will have a single supplement and I can live with that because it makes sense.  A higher charge for a single spa package makes absolutely no sense to me.  I will not be using extra towels, robes, shampoo etc., or take up extra space in the therapy pool or the heated lounges?  The difference in $$$ isn't that much, but for me it's the principle; I am being charged extra by the company that runs the spa. It is really unfair that I am being "penalized" because I'm single.  I will find out who I can write to at the spa company and copy HAL on it.  Am I making too much of a deal of this?

Is it a possibility that I can get a better price once I board a ship?

Sorry for the rant but inequality really bugs me.:classic_angry:

No need to be sorry. I agree with your complaint.

Booking onboard will still have the "singles penalty," so there's no value in waiting.

For my 11 day cruise, the per person difference is $50, which I think is outrageous. There is absolutely NO justification for this. HAL told me they aren't charging singles more. It's just that couples get a discount.

No, you are NOT making too much of this. Singles get the financial shaft from all sides, and this is just another example of it. It's a Noah's Ark world out there.

I have two suggestions: If you are not already on the roll call for this cruise, join up. There may be another single, or odd numbered group, who would also like to sign up. You could team up to become a 'couple' (or a couple of couples), for this purpose.
Second idea is to head to the spa after you board, and see if there is any other single, or odd numbered group, waiting to sign up. Then do the same thing---see if you can join forces.

I have done this. An incentive I give is to let the other person put the charge on their account, thereby getting credit towards Mariner Days, and pay them in cash, or pay the Front Desk toward their bill.

To that I say BS.  Couples buy all kinds of services, food or drinks on board and they don't get a discount.

"Singles get the financial shaft from all sides, and this is just another example of it. It's a Noah's Ark world out there."

That says it all.  To be perfectly honest, my favourite cruises have been solo, in my own cabin, even if it's just an inside, spending my own $$$ the way I want to, and even sleeping half the day.

I will follow your advice Ruth and see if I can find someone to share.

Good luck. I hope you find someone easily. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Many times one half of a couple wants to use the spa, but the other half doesn't. It's a bigger pool of possible people to 'couple' with than you might think at first.
Since the two members of the 'couple' don't have to go at the same time, or even otherwise know each other, this is a viable solution to anyone who has the courage to speak up and poll the line.

Hmmm, that's interesting.  I just got off the NA on 11/4 and the couples price for 7 days was $219 prebooked and $279 for two onboard.  However, your dates 12/7-12/21 covers a 14 day period.  So $299 seems like a real value (if it covers 14 days) for two or even for one at $169.  $169 was the single price on our 7 day cruise.

When I book the spa for a single instead of a couple I never thought I was penalized.  However, I do appreciate when I book as a couple I get a discount because I pay for two.  I guess it's all a matter of perspective.  When I travel alone, I only have one bar bill, one casino bill, one shopping bill, one excursion bill.  So when I travel with DH all those items double or more!! So I like the discount for a second person in the thermal spa.

I think Ruth really gave great advice of trying to find another person to get you to the couple rate!  I've done that in the past too.  You don't have to be in the same cabin or use the spa at the same time either.  It really becomes a win-win.

Just off the Nieuw Statendam 14 day transatlantic.

The pre-cruise price for couples was $429

The on-board price for couples was $479 (but was reduced $20 because the spa pool was going to be closed from 3 to 10pm one day and 6pm to 10pm another day....which was not an issue)

(It's our favorite thing to spend $$$ on.....as one lady said in the pool on the evening of day 1," I don't feel settled in until I have my pass and and in this pool ".....we agree..everything was working fine, it was never crowded and no issues getting a hot lounge chair)
