In the US, the non-refundable deposit is not as bad as the term implies.  If you cancel, you get a Future Cruise Credit for the amount of the deposit less $100 per person.  I just changed a cruise to a non-refundable and saved $1,800.  The risk/reward for me was well worth it because there is a very low probability that we would cancel for a reason that is not covered by our travel insurance.

For $1800 I'd make the switch too, but not for just $200.  I am waiting for a better price; historically, the prices for my cruise have fallen dramatically just before final payment.

??? Unsure if you are aware, but in the US, the cruise line takes the money at source, no TA involvement like there is over here.

I had read that on here. My worry would be picking a dodgy ta in the first place, it’s really difficult when you can’t take advice and be given a name from those in the UK who use a reputable one. I can of course do the usual google search and it brings up many if the same names but I would not have a clue which one to choose.

The M&M is a great place to hear about recommended TAs. We’ve been using the same one for years as she’s very responsive. It’s always best to check both sides of the pond before booking though.

Having got a great reduction of around $2000 over the past few weeks I saw there was a Boxing Day sale on at Celebrity so I checked in again. The price of the exact cabin category just next to it had gone up by $600! How that can be called a sale when the price has gone up from the day before beggars belief.
