Sallyandtex Posted January 27, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2020 Hi, I didn't know which forum to put this! Hopefully some knowledgeable cruisers will pip in with an answer. We are doing a cruise in Norway, and traveling for 2 weeks in France. I am not desperate to use internet in Norway, but we will need things like google maps/translate?? for France travel. Has anyone used simcorner or orange mundo? Or what did you do when travelling in EU? I was thinking maybe pick up a local SIM at the airport, but my sister did that and had trouble trying to recharge that way having to call an operator that didn't speak English. So that would be an option maybe if there was an easy app or website to recharge. thanks!
peter1956 Posted January 27, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2020 You could go a local sim. We went for one of these. https://www.unitednetworks.net.au/ We are traveling to a few country's this year and seems to work in them all.
Cootakid Posted January 27, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2020 Purchased a sim from Simcorner earlier this year and used across Europe and UK for a month. No problems at all....😁

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 28, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2020 Google Maps now offers offline maps which you can download for regions you are travelling in. They work well but don't give directions for walking, only driving. We've used these, plus hotel and cafe WiFi, instead of bothering with a SIM. ilikeanswers Posted January 28, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2020 Google maps and Norwegian and French on Google translate are downloadable so you can work them offline. For Europe I personally would go with SIM Corner. I have compared their prices with a lot of local SIM prices and found them to be a much better deal. Also their Europe SIM card covers many countries so you don't have to swap SIMs.

Yep, that’s the one I went with. If travelling for longer than 30 days, consider buying 2 sims. Trying to recharge over there was problematic........ lamchops Posted February 1, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2020 I bought the 3UK SIM card from amazon for our Baltic cruise last summer and it worked great in all ports. I didn’t come close to using the 1.5 gig because I turned off data and only turned it on when needed. The other option is to go to a Vodafone store to buy a tourist sim and have them install and test it for you.
Kiwi_cruiser Posted February 1, 2020 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2020 if you are spending some time in the UK before you go to france and Norway then Giffgaff https://www.giffgaff.com/ Could be a option.
Fletch1 Posted February 2, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2020 I have used SIM cards from Simcorner previously in Europe, including Norway. No problem. Highly recommend them.
