Rare MicCanberra Posted February 22, 2020 #26 Share Posted February 22, 2020 I wonder how many will be staying on for the extra night or two.
Rare frantic36 Posted February 22, 2020 #27 Share Posted February 22, 2020 We were just in Fremantle as we were getting ferry tickets for Rottnest for next month. My goodness, I thought QM2 was a big ship but Majestic is HUGE. 🙂 Julie

Off the Majestic yesterday. Most were leaving during the day but a few planned to leave Sunday and Monday. Still activities on board, restaurants open for dinner but the ship felt quite empty and a bit eerie. Most of the staff were staying on to Singapore when 800 contractors come on board for the dry dock and have to be fed and and housed. tangogulf Posted February 28, 2020 #36 Share Posted February 28, 2020 Strange for a 3 year old ship to be having a major dry dock so soon.

Now headed for Singapore, probably there by now re Drydock, then was supposed to cruise to HK, but god only knows where she will head now.

This is a regular thing that many ships do, some areas need a refurb or a refit, depending on how they have worn or the line may be adding or changing some features in some of the public areas. We stayed extra nights and it was much appreciated, a lot of the crew were getting off at the same time. Our flight home was not till later in the day so we stored our luggage for $5 a bag at the Australia Hotel across the road and had a quick visit to prison and when we returned the Majestic was just departing to the sound of the Love Boat, bitter sweet. There was nothing about the ship and crew that I could find to complain about ,loved every minute. Cheers Carole
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 29, 2020 #41 Share Posted February 29, 2020 A nice way to finish the cruise even if it didn't go all the way.

We stayed on board for the two extra nites in Fremantle and then decided to fly to Singapore and continue the SE Asian leg of our holiday. Perth to Singapore one way on Scoot cost just $200 and then we found most Singapore hotels had slashed their prices by at least half. We had extra days in Singapore then flew over to Phuket for a few more and then returned home on our original flight ticket. The 50% cruise compensation will more than cover all costs for the Asian leg even before we claim anything back from Princess. Singapore and Phuket were business as usual with no health issues and there was no problem getting back in to Brisbane. We were determined to salvage something positive from the suspended cruise and came out well on top financially. We still can't understand why everyone we spoke to made the decision to return home from Perth when the cruise ended.
valantine80 Posted March 14, 2020 #43 Share Posted March 14, 2020 We were on this cruise also but we always getting off in Fremantle. We stayed for a week afterwards at Mandurah and spoke to another couple who had also been on the Majestic. They told us of an English couple who decided, seeing as they were here, to spend the extra time travelling in Australia, not fighting for an airline seat home immediately and using the money they were getting refunded to spend on their holiday here. Seems like you didn't panic and made a good decision on making the most of your holiday time. Pleased it worked out for you. Pam
