awhfy Posted June 5 #9026 Share Posted June 5 Well, Karin is having the surgery tomorrow morning. Doc told her waiting two more weeks would make a harder recovery. We did get a wheelchair today & she feels free again. It’s very lightweight & manuverable. She’s still hopeful of going to Hawaii next week & have it just be a relaxing time with sunrises & sunsets & cocktails & pushes on the beach boardwalk & lots of family time. (We’ll plan on another trip for snorkeling & swimming when we’re both healed). I also can’t do anything but float, no snorkeling or swimming for me. Melody I hope everything goes well with the surgery. The hardest thing for me after my knee surgery was sitting for longer periods as it would cause my knee to stiffen and be extremely painful trying to bend it. Years later, I still have to move my knee frequently to avoid or minimize this. Sherri🙂
Rare Lois R Posted June 5 #9028 Share Posted June 5 Hi, today I have a Drs appt which is a follow up on something from a few months ago. While I am there, I will ask them about something for my cough. Yes, it is still there. I have been taking the cough syrup and lozenges It seems to be breaking up now (if that makes sense) but it is been so long since I have a cough, I don't know what the normal time frame is.......like when will it stop? MrToblerone Posted June 5 #9029 Share Posted June 5 The coughs sound terrible ,hopefully none on our cruise on Sunday . I seem to catch everything nowadays. I hope those of you who are unwell get better soon especially as you head into Summer. Totally get it about the parents as well ,we also have these issues . We have just been to Cadeques ,it was a lovely little town where we had a nice lunch . The sardines were a bit tricky to eat but very tasty. We went to buy some more fish for dinner at the shop but it closed from 1.30 pm until 6.30 pm ,we are gradually getting used to the Siestas they have here. Oh well, hopefully they will help.

Rare Lois R Posted June 5 #9032 Share Posted June 5 I got the pills for the cough.....they are not a capsule really. They are that gel type of pill and easy to swallow🙂
slidergirl Posted June 5 Author #9033 Share Posted June 5 Sherri - there is definitely some respiratory cr*p going around. I may start wearing a mask again! Cynthia - sad that the parents have to move to assisted living. It's tough on both sides to reach that realization. Lois - how is it going with the cough? I have to up my allergy meds, I think. I spent 30 minutes outside yesterday and then I was coughing all evening. OOTD: Capri leggings and one of my SPF hoodie shirts. I went out this AM for "un caffe e un cornetto" so I had to be semi-presentable. My usual place to go to grab that has closed (couldn't keep enough staff), so I have to go another 1/2 mile to another, more expensive place.

slidergirl Posted June 6 Author #9039 Share Posted June 6 A hot one up here today. Hot, dry, windy. Not good for coughs. And, the cottonwoods are shedding their "fur" all over so that's getting everyone's allergies going. It looks like dandelion fluff flying all around. Ugh. Today was the trip to my hairstylist. Fun day. The lady who spends lots of time in France was in with her dog. She's the one who said to "go commando" in the summer when wearing a dress/skirt. She's like 73 and she's one of those, like me, who don't give a hoot about what people think, she just lives life her way. Definitely an old hippie woman! She said she was trying to figure out if this language on a video was Portugese. Well, let me tell you - none of us were listening - we were just gawking at this sexy handsome 30-something man in the music videos. When he put his hair down, it went just over his shoulders and looked so much like a particular religous man (😉). I think the language flipped between Spanish and Portugese, depending on who the audience the videos were for. I called it "Menopause Porn". I decided to spiff up a little to go see her. I'm usually shorts and a Tshirt when it's this hot (85). I put on the linen dress from Quince and put a belt on it. I wore my high tops, though, as I had to stay a little rebellious. Since the pics in Quince show it about 2-3 inches above the knee, I had my stylist take a pic to show how a L was on my 5'8" body. It was really comfy. I could see it in the Summer in Italy. OOTD: that Quince linen dress and my Taos leather high tops. Sunglasses by Blenders. Oh, that's Alan photobombing. We're just a fun bunch there.

Rare PurpleHays Posted June 6 #9041 Share Posted June 6 31#1Hubby didn't feel good this morning, so I went on a hike by myself. I pushed hard and did our one hour 2.8 mile hike in about 50 minutes, but I paid for it. My gluteus maximus/glutes are achy, but the good kind of achy. The dew point was 71, the temp in the low 70s. It was pretty miserable. I struggled to breathe the entire time. OOTD: #1. Keen boots (that are falling apart), bike shorts, and royal blue technical shirt (in honor of DDay/Operation Overlord) #2: "Making pour decisions" tank and Target shorts. *After* a shower. Felt ucky after that hike.

Rare Lois R Posted June 7 #9043 Share Posted June 7 Hi girls, still coughing but not as much. When I woke up this morning, well, that was pretty bad. My next trip is in 3 weeks......I think I might have posted about this a while back but I am doing a land trip with 6 other gals.......Flying to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I got my own room so hopefully everything else will be good too. I know 2 of the the other 6 gals. The person planning the whole thing is a long time friend. I leave on June 27th and will be back on July 5th. First land trip in probably 20 years and never one with 7 people. Hoping everyone gets along! My next cruise was supposed to be 2 weeks to the Caribbean in December but I just don't know if I want to do the Caribbean. I am actually looking at 2 other cruises instead.....I have never been to Australia and that has been on my bucket list forever.......so looking at a cruise going there. If that one does not come to fruition I am looking at a 14 day TA Crossing.......Lisbon to Ft. Lauderdale. Will let ya'll know what I end up doing. Melody, hope you and Les are doing well. PH, hope your hubby is feeling better. Cynthia, so when is this upcoming cruise? Hi Kat

Our son flew in from Australia so we had some time with him as well. Flight back yesterday was intersting, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many people coughing and sneezing on a plane before. Including me! I have evidently come home with an upper respiratory infection, so I am feeling your pain, Lois! I hope you are feel better soon! Melody, I am thinking you and family have had enough health issues and all deserve a vacation. I have to agree with Kat, I would hold off on the surgery until after the trip. I am feeling your pain too, Cynthia as we are dealing an older parent too. My dad needs to go into assisted living but refuses to leave his house. He will be 90 in September and is mentally gong downhill. Latest issue is he made a mess of his bank account, my brother had to take it over and pay bills, etc. Now dad is accusing him of trying to steal Dad’s money. This is very difficult for my brother as he was always the favorite child who could never do wrong in my father”s eyes. Fun times for my siblings! Sherri🙂 Hi Sherri, I must have missed your post So sorry about your Dad......it is so hard.....the children turn into the parents and parents are now the children. Hope things get better.

He is talking moving now, but we’ve been going through his bank statements and have discovered he has given a grand daughter, someone who has made many bad (stupid) decisions in her life, over $70,000 for legal issues during the past couple of years. He has almost depleted his money market account which leaves not enough for assisted living until he sells. We were hoping we could move him first and then get the house on the market. I hope I don’t make things difficult for my sons when they have to parent me! Hope you are continuing to feel better, Lois! Sherri🙂

An entry from Travel + Leisure show up with a title of something like "15 essential things to take to Europe this summer". Well, right smack in the middle of the photos was the dress!!! And they promoted it. Seems that I was a little head of the curve on it 😸 I was going to go down the other side of the mountain to the town that has a Jiffy Lube today. But, it's going to be 90 down there and they only have an outside waiting area, to I'll pass and wait until it's cooler next week. OOTD: grey Prana sleeveless Tshirt and denin shorts. Rare PurpleHays Posted June 7 #9049 Share Posted June 7 Got off work early today, so went to REI and got new hiking boots. I tried the Keen Targhee and Merrill Moab. I liked that the Moab was not waterproof and cheaper, but the Keen felt more like what I've been in already, in spite of waterproofing (which I didn't want). I went ahead and got the Keens along with a pair of lighter socks. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. The humidity is supposed to be lower, so there is that.
