It is so frustrating being in a “What if, what if?” situation whilst you wait for test results, or more tests, or a specialist opinion, and we let our imagination run riot. All going well so far; I have just had the anticoagulant delivered, by my kind chap from the pharmacy, and Doc. needs blood tests in a couple of weeks to see how they are doing (hope for no bad side effects). He probably wants to see me to decide if I need an echocardiogram. My only real symptom is shortness of breath after exertion; not when sitting or lying down, which I did get on the longish walk to outpatients yesterday! I know that 'heart failure' is not as dramatic as it sounds, as Frank and Avril have discovered, so am keeping pretty cheerful apart from sometimes if I wake at 3 a.m. of course. Re oatcakes - are they really only good if from your local bakery, or are any of the branded ones from the supermarket good? Miso soup is also really good Saurkraut finely shred a medium to large white cabbage 2 table spoons of fine salt 1 teaspoon of caraway seed massage the salt into the cabbage for about 10 minutes (you should start to get some liquid out), make sure every bit of cabbage is mixed well in, massaging will start to create a brine add in the caraway at the end and mix through place the cabbage in a sterilised sealable glass jar and weight it down to ensure the liquid from the cabbage covers the cabbage. keep at room temperature for about a week. It should start to ferment in a day or two, NB make sure you “burp” it twice a day as the gas starts to build up and can cause the jar to explode. Just press down on the cabbage and you will see the gas bubbles coming up. Lakeland sell a proper fermentation jar with a gas release valve and glass weights specifically for making saurkraut. I think amazon sell them as well. The finished product should have a fresh cabbagey smell. If there is a sour smell then bacteria has got into the process, everything needs to be sterilised through the whole process. hope your stomach sellae’s soon. Tried sauerkraut when I was at conferences in Germany & the Czech Republic, must admit it is not something I would eat again. i had a chat with the pharmacist at my local pharmacy this morning and he has recommended some rehydration salts which will help, but he said my body should get used to them after 3 days and I will see a reduction in the side effects. The owner was actually going around apologising to everyone. I think that it would have been a good idea to have messaged everyone who had booked to warn us. Fortunately we will be taking the teenagers out next week for lunch so going to their favourite restaurant. The good news is that the post has brought DH's biopsy results and it has turned out to be a seborrheic keratosis so thankfully benign. He said even the name scares people who are probably already anxious. He said it can be managed for donkeys years if done properly and he just wished the term could be got rid of. Hope all goes well. My best wishes x That's what my specialist said but unfortunately that's what it is ,part of your heart has ceased to work. As you rightly say it can be managed in most cases with diet, medication and fluid intake . It cannot be cured so we have to take good care of what still works .
