snorkle lover Posted April 3, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2020 This might be a strange question but here goes. We opted for a refund for our cruise the end of April. So I suppose this will show as a credit with no way to get cash out, correct? This is a card that I primarily use to charge large travel expenses so now I am stuck having to use it all the time since large expenses might not be happening for a while. Any thoughts? DaveFr Posted April 3, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2020 Have you checked with your credit card issuer? Dave
snorkle lover Posted April 3, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted April 3, 2020 Hi Dave, Thank you for your response. I just tried calling them but due to the virus they are only taking emergency calls. Oh well I am sure I can figure a way to pay it down!
Pcardad Posted April 3, 2020 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2020 Most banks will cut you a check if a large credit sits on your statement for 2 months.

My experience with my credit cards is that you can request a check be sent to you, actually when I have left a credit balance for more than 3 months they'll send me a check automatically
Wendy The Wanderer Posted April 3, 2020 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2020 I'm in the same situation--ask them, they'll no doubt pay you back. This will be affecting me when I cancel our world cruise for next year (which I'm not certain to do, but probably.) That'll be C$30K, paid through Amex Canada, so a very significant piece of change! Interesting that you couldn't get thru to your CC provider. I'm going to call Amex Canada next week and see what they say. I wonder if asking Regent to cut a check is an option? Rare ronrick1943 Posted April 3, 2020 #7 Share Posted April 3, 2020 You'll get a check back, but don't forget you'll have to give back your points.
Rare CruiserFromMaine Posted April 3, 2020 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2020 I asked for a copy of our cardholder agreement. We can get a refund. (Chase Visa). Not sure if I have to request it or not. It needs to post first...

SusieQft Posted April 4, 2020 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) I got a refund on my Citi credit card, and when I called to request cash out they were able to transfer it directly to my Wells Fargo bank account. I already had the card set up for automatic payments from my bank for the balance due each month, so I don't know if they would have transferred it otherwise. It'll be interesting to see how this works as I expect to have too few points in my Chase account (I tend to use them as quickly as possible) when they go to deduct 3x cash refund value (Chase Sapphire Reserve). Presumably I will just gradually be working off a negative balance. Won't take long if Regent starts sailing again.

I also will being getting 30+K, meaning I'll own 90+K in miles. I only have 14K in credits now, so we'll not be getting miles for awhile.........
