Linda, how disappointing for you and Mario not to finish your trip the way you planned. Safe travels home.

Thanks, Leigh.  On a brighter note, we just loved Padstow and Cornwall.  Really lovely locals (apart from a couple of officious medical personnel😂).  It’s a beautiful part of the world.

Thanks, Marion.  Never mind, we’ve had a wonderful month-long holiday, including one of the best cruises ever (apart from the last two days)

Sorry Julie.  Meant to reply to you🙏🏻

Thanks everyone, things didn’t go as well as they could, it has been a rough few weeks.

Anniversary mid Aug had a great day, even went to see mum (it was their 69th anniversary same day and dad’s inNursing home so she was doing it tough)

Next day had mini stroke outside, tried to get up sooner than I should, fell, on concrete) neighbours four blocks away heard the screaming (probably registered as m8nor earthquake too with my fat acre hitting the ground). Off to hospital, scan some Panadol, “OK you can go home”. We looked at the scan but radiologist will look at it and report we will ring if there is anything.

Two plus weeks later “High this is Maitland Hospital just checking who operated on your burst fracture in your back, we have no record … what you didn’t know about it… we will contact a spine specialist and get back to you” “Spine specialist says after all this time nothing can be done.”

Ambos a few times for pain relief, made me go to hospital a few times, hospital admits there is nothing they can do, though one lovely doctor ‘wow you are in interesting case, mind if I get the junior doctors to read it during the week”.

So off to ER again Tuesday after another fall and unbearable pain, won’t give me even the amount of pain killer I have at home. Stroke specialist comes on from holidays to check, I want you to have an EEG to see if there is more than just the artery problems. I tell the ER that, they do nothing about it. Go hame about midnight (no bed alternate is stay in ER all night, guarantee a fresh mini stroke anyway.

Thursday booked for EEG and angiogram of brain, so proof I have one anyway.

Have the EEG (yet to get official report but unofficially all clear. Angioram put off to Friday due to emergency, that’s fine, things come up.

But Tell angiogram people that there is no way I can lay flat on my back for four hours (had to least time I had one) that’s OK but how about on the angiogram table,  me if it is only about half hour like last one I will get through, yeah on it over two hours, thinking “Wow didn’t think I’d be this sore in half an hour.” Again less pain relief than I have at home.

And they wonder why I am ready to die.

Hi Gut.  I feel for you mate.

So very sorry to read of your complex medical  situation, and to know you’re in constant pain and discomfort.  You’re in our thoughts, and like Les, in our prayers.

our tale of woe pales in contrast, but our big news is that we fly home tomorrow, having been denied by Cunard to board QE in Barcelona tomorrow for our much anticipated voyage home.  Cunard stipulates that for longer voyages such as this, a negative, observed lateral flow (rapid antigen) test myst be taken and the necessary “Fit to Travel” cert. confirming, within 48 hrs of boarding.  Anyone diagnosed with Covid within 10 days of embarkation date will be denied boarding.
My positive result on our Oceania cruise was on 28 Sept, 12 days from Cunard embarkation, and therefore outside the 10 day exclusion period.  I have official documentation from Oceania Sirena’s chief medical officer confirming this.  He also issued a Fit to Travel cert for me for 5 days after diagnosis.  I am no longer infectious, and haven’t been for many days, but because I returned a positive RAT yesterday (that can happen for sometime) and also the Cunard UK official I spoke to agreeing I would probably be the safest passenger aboard, he said Cunard International (who I need to talk to because we booked in Australia and who will not be available to take calls till Monday, embarkation day) will still deny me permission to board.  No consideration at all of documented proof of why my result is positive.

Oh well, Cunard will apparently grant future cruise credits for the fare, and will refund the amounts we paid for tours.

Home to our family (wonderful) and to the deluges (not so wonderful).

What a nerve wracking experience!  What an unexpected end to your wonderful holiday.  So sorry that you can't cruise home with Cunard.

I've never been so nerve waiting for the results of a supervised RATS on the wharf in Cairns before I could board the ship for my cruise to Darwin.

The positives you'll soon be seeing family and you have a Cunard cruise to look forward to.

Thanks, Marion.  It is what it is, so we are happy we enjoyed a lovely holiday, complete with all but the last two days of a wonderful cruise.  Oceania never disappoints, and the medical care I received aboard was first class.  We have lots of time to explore how to use the Cunard  credits, although we beed some time before looking at Cunard again after this experience.  As our daughter said yesterday, they will probably drop these protocols for longer voyages very soon.  They have already dropped all testing for shorter voyages.

Lucky you have the wonderful memories of your travels prior to catching Covid.  I hope you have no after effects from Covid.  My girlfriend and one of her sons both got long covid.  (All her family members caught covid.)

@GUT2407, I really do hope that you are able to find relief soon. I can't even begin to imagine the frustration you feel with ongoing pain and no relief in sight. Take care and I hope things improve soon. In the meantime you do have the marvelous Max to brighten your days.

I was wondering if you have recovered from Covid, Lyle.

With that look does Maxy keep the ambulance officers under control? Or are they too familiar visitors now?

I am recovering, I still have a cough and fatigue. I was hoping to go back to work tomorrow but I don't think that will happen, maybe by Thursday. For now I continue to rest up and drink lots of fluids. I have stopped taking the cold meds which did keep the symptoms in check. Now I think perhaps a hot buttered rum is in order.

Rest until you are feeling better and less fatigue.  Don't rush to get back to work!

Well we had an offer on our house, it was not really acceptable so we did a counter proposal. They made another offer and we accepted it. As it stands the sale is under contract but it is subject to development approval. That will take some months so we will be here until mid June at which time the deal fall through if they don't get the zoning.

Congratulations on sale.  Do you think buyers will get rezoning during that period?

Thanks Lyle, not much fun only times I’ve left the house for two weeks is by ambulance, but my boy helps.

I've been kill time watching an Australian machinist Curtis from Cutting Edge Engineering on You Tube. It is fascinating to watch as he repairs and creates parts for large machines. I understand the principles but have no knowledge of how to do any of it. I have tried watching some of the woodworking ones but often cringe at what I see. There is a Luthier I watch doing guitar repairs he does really good work.

Some tradesmen are extremely talented, others are more like me useless at that sort of thing, what puzzles me is those with my skills who make videos of their butchery.

Yes the so called woodworkers giving out advice on how to do something, all the while wasting many dollars worth of innocent wood. It's literally painful to watch and often dangerous.

But then there are incompetent people in pretty much any job.

Yes and they want you to write down what you know in a Desk File before you leave.  They look at you with a puzzled look when you explain you are a Manager who is a decision maker which is the job.  You can't write down what you don't know yet!!

When tasked with the decision of the main ingredients for my hot toddy I was faced with the dilemma of Ron Zacapa Rum (Nectar of the Gods) or Crown Royal (blended for King George on his visit to Canada in 1939). I decided that it would be a whiskey toddy rather than hot buttered rum. It is doing a wonderful job of soothing my throat.

Try Drambuie Lyle, I always have a bottle in my cabinet.  Lubbly Jubbly.
