US Crew stuck on ship

What's even more astounding is that the "gangway up" order does not apply to Civmars on MSC ships outside the US.  MSC, which has always had a hard time recruiting mariners, is afraid that with the ships being in a US port, by union contract the crew can give 24 hours notice and walk off the ship for good, and then MSC would be left short-handed.

Could they hold someone on the ship if they did resign?

Not legally, but they sure try to, and threaten loss of future employment.  They can also deny transportation home for quitting.

Any members of Congress that might be supportive to the issue?

Does MSCPAC and MSCLANT have the same restrictions?

From what you said earlier it seems as if MSCEURAF, MSCCENT, and MSCFE do not?

With the suit filed by the unions, I'm sure they have reached out to maritime friendly members of Congress.  From what I have seen, the "gangway up" order only applies to those MSC ships in the US.  MSC doesn't worry about ships overseas, because the mariners are on "foreign articles" (the employment agreement between the mariner and the Captain), and quitting foreign articles in a foreign port can lead to actions by the USCG to revoke the mariner's documents.

Where’s Melinda Mann and the other US citizens? I noticed the Koningsdam is the closest to the Oosterdam it’s been in quite a while. Maybe they’re finally being transferred to the K like she said and maybe soon they’ll be on their way home to the USA!

I thought I read yesterday that she was disembarked. I don't recall which ship, or even where, though.

Koningsdam was in L.A. (San Pedro) today (leaving as we speak) and yes, all U.S, crew, about 37 of them from various ships, plus 19 Canucks, were able to disembark and are (or will be shortly) on their way home from LAX

I would guess she got of May 8.

Got off K-dam in L.A. (San Pedro) six days ago, along with other non-essential U.S. and Canadian crew. and went home
