MrMike45 Posted May 20, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2020 We are currently booked on an Oct 2020 cruise from NY to Canada and NE. Hopeful that it will be cancelled prior to final payment due early July. Just checked the website, looking at new bookings, and this cruise, as well as all cruises FROM NY for 2020 have been removed. However when I then log in and check my account, the cruise still lists as active. Do you think this means MSC is in the midst of cancelling these cruises? Or just not taking new bookings since maybe they believe it will be cancelled? I can't see it being sold out given the current situation, especially in NY. rkacruiser Posted May 20, 2020 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2020 A possible concern of MSC might be what Canada will do as to opening their ports. It's my understanding that HAL has cancelled their Canada/New England season this year.

I noticed that our October 22, 2020 repositioning cruise to Miami from NYC was missing. I spent two hours on the phone with MSC trying to switch my FCC and Casino Discount to a 2021 sailing. The agent told me that she sees the Meraviglia sailing from Martinique on October 23, 2020. Mike

MrMike45 Posted May 27, 2020 Author #13 Share Posted May 27, 2020 The entire cruise season out of NY (atleast for MSC) seems canceled. All cruises removed from the website

MrMike45 Posted May 27, 2020 Author #15 Share Posted May 27, 2020 Not sure there is a definitive date. Canada though has been very strict with their borders so I would assume not until things calm down dramatically
Skitals Posted May 27, 2020 #16 Share Posted May 27, 2020 I booked directly with msc usa, no notification and I can still manage my booking on their website. I wish they communicated better if this is indeed cancelled. Looks like they just want to hold on to my money as long as possible.
Até Posted May 27, 2020 #17 Share Posted May 27, 2020 (edited) While the uncertainty makes it difficult for booked passengers there is no good reason for MSC to totally cancel the sailing yet. Your best hope is MSC intends to do what they can to make the sailing go and that likely involves limiting passenger capacity on the ship. So it is a possibility the ship is already near that capacity so no new bookings are being made. If MSC was solely interested in getting as much revenue as possible, even if they knew it wasn't sailing, then they would be selling every cabin they could right up to the cancellation. Carolina Girl 99 Posted May 29, 2020 #18 Share Posted May 29, 2020 Interesting topic. We had booked overlapping cruises for OCT 2020 with the intention of cancelling one. After family discussions this past weekend, we chose to cancel the Meraviglia repo so I called our TA on Monday to cancel. So far we had only paid the initial deposit of $199 pp with final due in July. I sure hope I will get a refund and not a FCC for what I put down. I've tried poking around the MSC website the past couple of days to see if our status updated but it only allows me to log in, once in I get an error message trying to do anything else like manage booking. Is it just me, or are others having trouble with the website?

Log in to your account, not with the booking number way. Get the error, select go back and then click the log out at top right. Make sure you are still on the US site: msccruisesusa.com and do the log in to your account a second time. That usually works.
MM42 Posted May 29, 2020 #20 Share Posted May 29, 2020 (edited) the Canadian Government has extended its ban on cruise ships through October 31, 2020. Edited May 29, 2020 by MM42
Até Posted May 29, 2020 #21 Share Posted May 29, 2020 I assume this is the reference: https://www.canada.ca/en/transport-canada/news/2020/05/minister-garneau-announces-updated-measures-for-cruise-ships-and-passenger-vessels-in-canadian-waters-up-to-october-31-2020.html I would not be surprised if MSC waits to cancel the Meraviglia NYC sailings. There are other itinerary change possibilities, such as like the 2021 Divina Bermuda sailings, the repo to Miami still has no problem. A lot can change by late September/October, hopefully those already booked will not have to wait too long for a decision. It really should be decided before final payment though.
MrMike45 Posted May 29, 2020 Author #22 Share Posted May 29, 2020 Just an FYI... just got off the phone with my casino rep. While the cruise we were booked on is not officially cancelled yet, for all intents and purposes, it is “canceled” due to Canada’s ruling today on cruise ports. He said that accounting is too back logged to transfer deposits from one cruise to another, so instead our deposit is being refunded to us (within 60 days). However he was more than happy to transfer our 30% casino voucher/discount to our Sept 2021 cruise given the situation. Quite honestly, a very painless experience that took a grand total of 15 mins including all hold time. Really simple and excellent customer service. smeesme Posted June 2, 2020 #23 Share Posted June 2, 2020 I just received an email from MSC stating that all cruises from NY for the Meraviglia are cancelled including the 2 repositioning cruises to NY from Europe and NY to Miami. We were on the reposition from NY to Miami so definitely disappointed however not surprised.

Até Posted June 2, 2020 #25 Share Posted June 2, 2020 Interesting that for US all fares and deposits will automatically go to a FCC and you cannot request a refund until June 19th (further instructions to come). https://www.msccruisesusa.com/cruise-itinerary-changes-and-cancellations
