Farewell Sun Princess & Sea Princess?

So only the "Dawn" now with P&O Aus. is the only one left of the these four wonderful ships.  Our first Princess Cruise was in 1997 on the Dawn (inaugural year) and the following year on the Sun (also the Sun in 2002).  Loved these ships and sad to see them move on, but completely understandable.

Sun will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the last cruise we took with my Mom and Dad (she just passed last month).  They had the 3rd most sea days on Princess and we now have the Venice Glass plate (love those) they used to give out with the Sun Princess logo on the back.

Hopefully Princess can use the Dawn, Sun, Sea. Star, Golden and Ocean names again and get rid of the stupidly named Discovery; Enchanted and Majestic.

😞

Thank you so very much.  Now to ‘cross everything’ that these cruises can go ahead and we can welcome our overseas visitors! Vicki. 🙂

I'm booked! Love both the Sapphire and ports. Plus Australia makes it really easy to get that visa just wish it was for multiple years (made it downunder 2018, 2019, 2020 canceled, 2021)

We seem to know what will happen with Sun Princess with her new career at Japan Grace as Peaceboat.  It will be interesting to see what happens to Sea Princess.  To both Sun and Sea thank you for being part of the Australian cruising scene, you will both be missed.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Today, the world’s leading international premium cruise line, Princess Cruises, announced the sale of two of its ships, Sun Princess and Sea Princess, to undisclosed buyers. The sale of these vessels is in line with parent company Carnival Corporation’s plan to accelerate the removal of less efficient ships from its fleet.

“Sun Princess and Sea Princess contributed to significant growth in Australian cruising,” said Princess Cruises president Jan Swartz. “Both ships defined the premium cruise experience with Australians and New Zealanders spending close to 14 million nights aboard these ships. While it is never easy to say goodbye to any ship in our fleet, this will allow us to deploy newer ships enhancing our offerings for Australia cruisers and focus on exciting newbuilds like the upcoming delivery of Enchanted Princess.”

The first ship in the Sun Class, Sun Princess was introduced in 1995 debuting in the Caribbean and was amongst the largest ships in the world at the time. The 2,000-guest Sun Princess also sailed in Alaska and Panama Canal, among other destinations, before being homeported in Australia in October 2007. Sun Princess also helped us open the Japanese market in 2013 as the first foreign-flagged cruise ships to offer cruises designed specifically for the Japanese.

The 2,000-guest Sea Princess became synonymous with World Cruises, completing over half of six global voyages since 2009, including the first ever world cruise from Australia. During her time based in Australia, Sea Princess travelled the equivalent of 35 times around the world. Prior to joining Sun Princess in Australia, Sea Princess sailed in Europe and Alaska as well as the Caribbean, including serving as homeport ship in Barbados in the early 2000s.

Due to the imminent departure of these two ships from the fleet, Princess Cruises will cancel published itineraries which include:

  • Sun Princess sailings from December 28, 2020 through August 14, 2021
  • Sea Princess sailings from December 23, 2020 through November 9, 2021

Just received our email cancelling our Sea Princess Syd/Brisbane cruise next April. So many Aust cruises gone now for next year with both Sun and Sea out and doesn't look like they are planning to backfill with another ship. And this was supposed to be our backup cruise in case our Med cruise in May fails to eventuate. Sigh 😞

Ours  Oct cruise to PNG is cancelled.  I am happy to rebook to Coral Princess PNG in Nov but I need that FCC first as I don't want to fork out any more cash.

Am also not prepared to put out more cash up front in current environment.  Will try to extend existing FCD's as long as possible so don't need a deposit.

We were booked on the Sun Princess for a PNG cruise in January 2021, but COVID was an issue and now the sale being a no go.

Now booked on the Coral Princess for PNG in November 2021 ...... hopefully we’ll be able to go 😊.

Have special memories of the Sea and Sun as sailed on these ships numerous times. First Princess cruise was on the Sea.

My second Princess Cruise was on the Sea Princess, a Sun Class ship. My first Princess Cruise was on the Golden Princess 2001 Inaugural, a Grand Class Ship, the second one.

At the time I was sold on Grand Class Cruising, the Sea Princess is a lovely ship, almost nostalgic but I found our cabin and balcony were terribly small.

I thought Princess gave up the Sea Princess years ago to P&O renamed it the Adonia and then some how 🙄 it became the Sea Princess again.

Yes it's a classic ship but it's time for Princess to move past the Sea Princess......for good.

Sun Princess was sold to Peace Boat and is now Pacific World, and her sister Sea Princess was sold to another upcoming Chinese cruise line and has been renamed Charming.

The poor Sun and Sea Princess, it was definitely time for those ships to leave the Princess fleet but not like that.

The Sea Princess has been renamed by the Chinese cruise line, Charming?😨
