New Venice Rules - Ships <590 Feet in Length

As most of you already know, Venice has banned ships greater that 590 ft in length.  You may be wondering what ships are now permitted to dock in Venice.   MNGardens has posted a link on the Azamara board to a site that gives the sizes of almost all of the ships now cruising.  I converted the list to an Excel spreadsheet and did a bit of slicing and dicing.  There are a total of 447 ships on the full list.  Of them only 185 are less than 590 feet in length.   This is a full list of the ships that are less than 590 ft long.  If your ship is not on this list, you can't cruise into Venice on her.  The list is long but those are the ships that will be welcome in Vernice.

Many of them are expedition ships.  I have done a South Georgia cruise on the Ocean Adventurer.  She is a neat ship.

Sorry for all the extraneous stuff on the post.  I copied my Azamara board post and couldn't figure out how to get rid of it.

  • donaldsc changed the title to New Venice Rules - Ships <590 Feet in Length

And, filter your results to limit gross tonnage to remove the 5 or 6 that are oversize on that list.  Also, things like river cruise boats, icebreakers, Norwegian ferry/cruise vessels, and US steamboats and coastwise cruise ships just muddies the waters.  Those ships would never visit Venice anyway.

One can easily look through the list to pick out the ones that might actually visit Venice.  My point was that Venice has essentially said that no ships at all will be allowed within Venice.  I guess that this was intent when they set up the limitation although they did not want to explicitly say that.

Some of Grand Circle Cruise Lines ships seem to be missing - Artemis, Arethusa, and Athena. At least I think they are missing, my eyes crossed try to follow the “organization “ of the list. It would be great to head into Venice on one of them.
