We were told, 1 gentleman was flown home from Puerto Rico. He allegedly tested positive on night 2. He was tested again and was positive. The airport then tested him twice prior to flying him home and he tested negative. The only reason I know this is a woman we met onboard had met him on night 1 in the living room. He was tapped on the shoulder by a staff member, had a private conversation, and then was escorted out of the area. Another staff member picked up his phone and glasses that were laying on the table top. She never saw him again. So she asked the hotel manager, who gave her the information, as she was worried, but her contact tracing lanyard did not detect any close contact so she was all good.

Wait... the gentleman was tested positive and got thrown off the ship. Yet, he was tested negative by PR official. So was the Viking test false positive? True. I've heard PCR test is highly accurate. False positive is unusual. No idea what test was performed by PR officials. So it could very well be a false negative. Like you said, no way to know. I guess this is the risk of travelling these days.

At least in a larger group setting such as a cruise, organized land tour, etc. We've yet to cruise during the pandemic. We did three car trips since Oct. '20, and for most of them we stayed in cabins, wore masks everywhere in public and only did take-out food. The big test of nerves will come with a cruise in March. I don't suspect many cruises will be canceled anymore unless lots of cases start to show up onboard.
RKF Posted November 23, 2021 #9 Share Posted November 23, 2021 According to this CDC site: https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/cruise-ship-color-status.html there has not been any reported cases on the Viking ships listed.

miami mama Posted December 3, 2021 #14 Share Posted December 3, 2021 Thank you for the link. Since Viking only has two ships listed (one green and one yellow), does that mean there are only two ships currently cruising?
Heidi13 Posted December 4, 2021 #15 Share Posted December 4, 2021 At present, all Viking Ocean ships are currently sailing, but they only have 2 ships operating in US Waters. Ships not operating in US Water, do not report to the US CDC.

Mich3554 Posted December 4, 2021 #17 Share Posted December 4, 2021 I can tell you that the captain of the Jupiter has specifically announced there have been no cases of covid since I got on it on Oct 31. Norovirus, yes and the fall out from that was pretty brutal (closed restrooms, pool, gym, hot tubs, etc) for a few days but that seemed to solve the problem. We were tested 3x yesterday before 9 am in order to get into Uruguay. Fun day.
Rare coljack Posted December 4, 2021 #18 Share Posted December 4, 2021 We were on Star from Nov 16 to Nov 26, Panama City, Panama to Ft Lauderdale. Captain made an "all-hands" announcement approx Nov 23 that one guest had tested positive and was isolated. Never heard more.
deec Posted December 6, 2021 #19 Share Posted December 6, 2021 Just returned from the Orion...no announcement of any onboard BUT also no announcement that there were none! We were in Cozumel when the NCL Breakaway was there, read that there 16 cases...grateful for Viking's precautions.

So this is not news to me. Back to Covid, now that there's more evident that Omicron will be a major wave in the US in the coming weeks. Anyone who will be cruising in the next few weeks has second thought? I still plan to go. But can't say I'm not worried.
Donaghadee Posted December 18, 2021 #22 Share Posted December 18, 2021 On the Star now somewhere off Colon Panama. This morning the Captain got on the PA to tell us the ship's doctor had a positive test. He's feeling fine but nonetheless hiding in the bilge until cleared. Star is picking up a healthy doctor tomorrow in Colon. Meanwhile, all passengers are fine.
