Entertainment canceled on the Breakaway?

It's also happening on a few Royal ships as well.

It's not just Royal and NCL, CCL is having the same struggles and MSC was just turned away from their own private island in the Bahamas!

Those traveling in the next month better buckle up. With any luck, things will calm down as quickly as they have flared up come February.

It seems that mask compliance on several ships has been lacking (based on reports from other threads). I wonder how much past cruisers skirting the rules is impacting other's enjoyment now?

I believe we would all be better off if we stopped blaming each other (masked/nomask or vaxxed/novaxx) and started blaming the virus. The other variables don't seem to much matter. The Virus is going to do what a virus does.

My son and his friends are on the January 2nd sailing.  One of his friends called NCL and was told all entertainment was shut down along with the casino and some of the restaurants.  Is anyone onboard and can verify any of this.  We are supposed to join my son and cruise the Breakaway on the 9th.

On the ship now. It is true. All canceled for the remainder of our voyage. We did see Burn the floor and syd norman's last night and howl at the moon Sunday, but no more this week. We got the same letter in our room tonight.

Following.  Best of luck to those currently aboard or with trips on Breakaway in the near future.  We were on Dec 5-12.  The one where we had to wait in a holding area and instead of getting on at noon we did not get on until after 6pm.  Due to the delay we did not make our first port and therefore wound up with an additional sea day.  In our case NCL gave each of us an additional $200, $400 total between wife and I,  in additional on board credit.

Because of what those on board are going through, I feel confident that NCL will do something to compensate them for the loss of value.  In addition to what is on the letter being discussed, now we have reports, valid or not, that the casino will be closed as well as some of the restaurants.  Would love to here more from someone on board the full extent of what has been shut down.  These things can escalate fast as we experienced on our Dec 5-12 cruise.

Good luck  again to those on board and to those with upcoming cruises.

I am so sorry to hear what is happening.  I too would like to hear from someone onboard about the casino being closed because they make a lot of money from the casino so IF they are closing it there must a very good reason behind that since it would cutting off a revenue stream.

One of these we have some degree of control over. The other, not so much. The virus doesn't care about blame and accountability.

My wife and I are taking two adult children on Breakaway Jan. 9.  We are watching this thread, as it can affect us.

My wife and I were on the Getaway and did not see the Burn the Floor show as we had 7 ports in 7 days (and time difference to Rome), so we were tired after long port days.  We were looking forward to seeing the show on the Breakaway, but if it gets cancelled that'll be really disappointing.  My children had to arrange their work schedules for this cruise, but the pandemic is creating havoc in many places.

It's unlikely NCL will cancel the cruises, because so many things are already arranged (crew/staff hires, ports, excursions, supplies to the ship, flights ticketed, etc.).  If anything they may offer some credits toward a future cruise.

My family has been careful and had been looking forward to the trip.  But if there's continued show cancellations or even port shutdowns, that's not the cruise we signed up for.

If we have learned anything, it is blame only happens when we are frustrated with any outcome.  Blame does not fix anything except giving a outlet for some steam.  We all have some choose here that make sense.  Let's individually look to the past, the present day and the future.  No blame, just "lets use good business judgement".

Wow, I hope I did a better job of explaining my opinion this time then I did in the past.  Let's all take care for the upcoming ride.  Please stay safe, take care of your selves and the ones you love and stay healthy.

Cruise Well Everyone.

I was on the December 5th sailing. Even though we missed a port, NCL did give every guest $200 onboard credit as well as a 10% future cruise credit ( which i used for our Breakaway sailing on March 6th 2022)

I am hoping just like everyone else that this goes away as fast as it came in. Funny though since CDC just reduced quarentine time to 5 days for positive tests. My guess is that 99% of the crew that are testing positive are asymptomatic!

I nearly break out in hives when someone tries to get me to cross the street if "don't walk" is flashing and there isn't a car in sight.

I won't pretend to understand the ultimate rule follower struggle, but I do appreciate that rule followers  exist and your last line made me laugh out loud, so TY :).

I may not be an ultimate rule follower, but I am a dreamer hoping the world sees less division in 2022.

my son just talked to someone at NCL.  The only thing cancelled is the entertainment.  His friend was confused.

Thank you for coming back and clarifying. 🙂

I’m on Breakaway now, letter is authentic, no compensation offered to guests even those in Haven rooms such as ourselves

I’m so sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted if you can. I’m curious what everyone is doing at night.

Huh?  How much detail would you like?😜

In close isolation, couples often end up with more babies, or divorce.

Oh wait, they can still roam around the ship, so that's different.

I guess I look at this issue from this perspective.  Remember when dinner theaters were all the rage?  Now suppose you made reservations and bought your tickets to a theater for dinner and a show.  When you arrive you are seated and served a meal.  Maybe it wasn't a five-star dinner, but at least it was as good as you expected it to be.  After dessert, you turned your chair to face the stage and got ready for the show, only to be told that there wouldn't be a show that evening.  Thanks for coming, hope you enjoyed dinner, no show for you, no refund, no price adjustment, don't let the door hit you on your way out.  You likely would not be well pleased.  I think that's sort of what NCL is doing.  Sure, it isn't their fault that we are in the throes of a pandemic.  Despite all their efforts, some of their performers got sick or tested positive for the virus.  I get it.  The show can't go on.  But you paid your money for dinner and a show, and you did not receive full value for your ticket.  Yes, the fine print on the ticket contract gives them broad latitude to alter the itinerary, the activities on board, etc., but you paid for a particular experience and you got shortchanged.  NCL owes you for the activities, tours, entertainment, meals, or whatever else they aren't able to deliver.  We have sailed with NCL several times when something happened to prevent them from fulfilling their promises.  We always received compensation.  Sometimes it was as little as $5 returned to our on board account for the port fee when we missed a port.  One time our cruise was so plagued with problems that everyone who stayed on board received a full refund of everything they had paid PLUS FCC of 50% of their cruise fare.  NCL is hemorrhaging cash right now, but even just a token compensation would go a long way toward smoothing some ruffled feathers.  Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

I think NCL sorely underestimates how much guests enjoy a little freebie. They should just comp some stuff that has a huge markup anyhow and doesn't really effect their bottom line.

We were on the Breakaway 12/12/21. This cruise was booked 12/2019. No way were we going to cancel.

1688 passengers and 1700 crew. Everything open and running. The entertainment was fantastic as usual for NCL. We were masked most of the time. No big deal. If I forgot a mask leaving my cabin a cabin steward down the hall gave me one.

Saw some people that did not mask. We moved quickly away from people sneezing and coughing could be anything.

The group were hung out with felt we were in a bubble away from land and crowds etc. etc.

They keep saying clean the ship, clean the airplanes, clean the restaurants.

Well the most important thing is to CLEAN THE PEOPLE. THAT IS THE PROBLEM.

Lying about being healthy but hiding symptoms. check out CCL RCL MSC .proof

Also, the 4 islands we went to the "natives" were mostly masked and hand sanitizer everywhere. Good for them.

No comments from the peanut gallery accepted.

Smoke and mirrors?  To take people's attention away from the other things that NCL had to cancel?  Not a bad idea.  A little misdirection, Bread and Circuses, and all that.

i mean, a spa pass wouldn't be turned down or an increase in the beverage package 15.00 limit to lets say 35.00. Fancy booze will smooth any ruffled feathers lol
