Beverage Cards purchased onboard

I'm sure someone can help me out with these two questions:

1. Can beverage cards ($50 & $100) be purchased on board with onboard cabin credits?

2. Can the cards be used on a future sailing or only the one when it was purchased.

I've never been this situation where I have "too many" cabin credits---if only they could be used in the casino, sigh.

No, the beverage card gets closed out at the end of the cruise.  If there is a credit balance it should be refunded to your on board account. (There’s been some discussion on it no longer being refundable but reports seem to indicate it still is.  It was pre-covid.  Haven’t sailed since covid, yet).

Somebody please enlighten me as I am trying to make sense out of the issue.  If one has onboard credit why not just buy the drinks (using a cruise card)?  The payment for the drink will come out of the same account that would be used for the beverage card and one would not need to be concerned with forgetting or losing one more card.  When beverage cards had some extra benefit we thought they were a great idea.  But now we cannot find any benefit.

Some don't like their onboard account cluttered with lots of little charges (I'm one of those as it's been tough enough keeping HAL straight on the bigger charges on our last two cruises).

Some people find it easier to keep track of their drink spending when using a beverage card. You aren't one of them, but that doesn't change the fact that we do exist, and find it nice to have the choice.

I am just glad that the beverage cards are still available.  During one cruise, when I tried to buy one at a bar, the bartender told me that there was no such thing.  When I insisted that he was mistaken, he started looking through his cabinets and drawers and made a discovery!  They still existed!

Wow.  I just wish people would ask their supervisor if they don’t know instead of saying there is no such thing.  Does the person think someone is making this up 🙄? Just like the person that worked for hal that said there were no more wine packages when cruises started back up.
