MaryZ Posted January 11, 2022 #26 Share Posted January 11, 2022 We upgraded to a grand suite with large balcony on the Anthem of the Seas 12/31. We started with Guest Services but quite honestly they are useless. I went to our Diamond host in the lounge and she got our cabin for us. It wasn't cheap, it wasn't expensive considering the cruise was very reasonable along with my casino discount etc. I did have to go back to guest services (useless....so bad I know why I stopped sailing royal for 14 years) to get them to credit me for the internet package I purchased. That took 4 people and finally an officer to figure that out. Craziness. Then the new guy who kept giving us blue cards. I'm like, I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to have a suite card. He's like no everyone's card is the same. Ummmm....nope. We had to go to the suite lounge and have them fix it. Apparently the new guy is a socialist. 😂

ideasbydesign Posted March 11, 2022 #29 Share Posted March 11, 2022 Went on Odyssey of the Seas 6 days, Dec 12. Bid for royal up (mini suite). Was notified of a failed bid 2 days into the cruise. I bid the maximum and still failed. The maximum bid at that time was $450 per couple for a mini suite. Now we are going on Wonder of the Sea 7 days, April 1. The maximum bid for the mini suite is $2,200 per couple. Ridiculous. I am a Diamond member and was at least invited. Our 2 couple friends going with us were not even invited to bid. So I am not so happy with the system. Why the swing from $450 to $2,200. Why the rejection email 2 days after sailing. Maybe if they change the system to an auction we could see our progress and won't be so disappointed as was mentioned above.

The messaging system doesn't always work, so don't expect invitations every time - everyone should go directly to the site to see fit they can bid. Not everyone can bid. Min and max bids vary across cabins, ships and itineraries - like just about all pricing.

The cruising situation is much more promising these days than it was in mid-December with Omicron. Prices seem to be up across the 4 cruises we currently have booked because of the outlook. I would expect the cost for Royal Up to increase as well. And this 'system' is used by multiple cruise lines. I figure at least we get a chance to bid on a higher category. When it's too rich for my blood, I don't bid.
