The Upgrade Fairy Does Exist!

Just got off the phone with the upgrade fairy for our 2/20 sailing on Legend. Snagged a Vista Suite for $300 more than what we paid for our balcony. We had applied for a $250 price drop some time ago, so now we are in a suite for $50 more than what we originally booked for. DW is quite happy.

I'm green with envy! Super congrats to you both!  👍

Do upgrades go to casino / frequent travelers or is it honestly just totally random???????

It seems to be random. This is our eleventh cruise and only the second time we got the call (and the first time we've upgraded).

Enjoy!  Just fyi - when you get a free boost to another cabin it is an upgrade.  When you pay for it, it is an Upsell.  Either way, have fun!

You call it whatever you want.  My guess is they call it a steal.

I got a vista suite from an inside for $250 on a 4 day. I've noticed when I have either gotten upgrade or upsell I have been on the same ship recently. Talked to someone else who got upgrade from inside to balcony years ago & they had also recently been on the same ship

NICE!!  I've never booked a suite.  I think the only time I would even consider it is if it was offered as an upgrade for a good price like you got.

The last time we got an upgrade was on our very first cruise, but it was on DCL.  We booked two adjoining ocean view rooms, but when we checked in at the port, our rooms had been changed two two connecting balcony rooms.  I don't even know if there are connecting rooms on Carnival ships.

Good to know, thanks!

Absolutely, just did a price check on this category and to book it now would be $2200 more than what we got in the upsell.

Totally agree.  I was booked in an L-shape on Freedom. (just got off ship Saturday)   Kept my eyes open, saw the aft wrap next to my L open up.  Grabbed it for $300 more - best move I have ever made.  We spent 90% of our time on that balcony!

Did you book through Carnival or a travel agent?

I am guessing but I don't think it would be offered to casino rate guests but I could be wrong...occasionally I am!

My son had booked his first casino rate. He booked an obstructed view balcony. He received an upgrade offer through his cruise manager section of Carnival website. He accepted and was given an extended balcony. I called my travel agent and asked if he could pick another extended balcony with no charge. Yes. He booked 2 cabins down from us.
