I could see not coming back after intermission if its not your thing, but walking out is just so pretentious and uppity its disgusting, and classless Saw the show in December with my Dad, I really enjoyed it. Along with the good company of @John&LaLa and @barbeyg. But, I have also seen the Broadway version of Cats so familiar with the storyline. My Dad did leave about 10-15 minutes before the show ended. But, he is 85 and his legs and ankle bother him from a motorcycle accident when I was a kid, plus when his helo was shot down in Viet Nam. So, I cut him a little slack.

I definitely want to see it since I love musicals. It was the only thing my mother and I shared a love for. I think Starlight express was the most out their musical I have seen (It was good). I also like some of the classical musicals- Singing in the rain, State Farm. Loved Mama MIA and Wicked. Thanks again. It’s State FAIR not farm. My parents always liked them and I used to watch with them. Singing in the Rain is great, Brigadoon, almost anything Rodgers and Hammerstein. One of my favorites is Les Mis, that would just be an uplifting play for a cruise!
poocher Posted February 16, 2022 #80 Share Posted February 16, 2022 I think a common theme for all the shows is a lot of dancing. I’d love to see Les Miz but the lack of dancing would probably be a no go. I am pushing for Pippin!! Who’s with me?

I honestly don't feel its dreary. I like to think its an uplifting story about forgiveness and rebirth. But what do I know

jndsilver31 Posted February 17, 2022 #86 Share Posted February 17, 2022 my wife and i are going on the allure in september, yes we know mama mia is on the allure. she saw the movie, she did not like the movie at all, but did like the music. we will go to the show when we are on the allure. we dont get to go to broadway shows, except on the oasis class ships, so we fine pleasure in them. we might even like cats.
love2decor8 Posted February 17, 2022 Author #87 Share Posted February 17, 2022 WOW WOW WOW……😹😹😹 Wasn't expecting such an array of passionate responses to my original question, but thanks everyone! We’re taking a large group of family on this trip and we voted……Looks like it’s an 8 night trip on the Harmony, so hopefully Grease won’t be as bad as a couple of people mentioned, but it’s not a dealbreaker either way!!!
alchemist4 Posted February 17, 2022 #88 Share Posted February 17, 2022 My first cruise was on the NCL Bliss and their shows were great, and had amazing production values, so I was sort of disappointed when I went on the Anthem next and it was....subpar. Granted, it was We Will Rock You, which may be the worst musical I've ever sat through. Not sure it's entirely RCL's doing, but the performers didn't help. Going on the Oasis in May, so we will definitely watch Cats. I feel like we can only go up haha

Maitaivegas Posted February 17, 2022 #91 Share Posted February 17, 2022 Jersey boys is one of my favorite musicals, you really don’t realize how many of their songs you know till you see this musical. I would love to see it again since I had a bad seat previously. This musical you want to sit close to the stage since the Broadway version had a overhang on the stage, which impacted your view mid theatre. I saw Wicked 3 times in 3 different cities, loved the songs.

Now, don't get me wrong. Les Mis is one of my all time favorite plays. The music, the story lines. The oddity of a broadway musical viewed from a masculine perspective. It's all wonderful. I'm just not sure if I would call it uplifting with so many people dying. I would love to see when Cats goes dark, The Greatest Showman take its place. I feel it would be a perfect show on a cruise ship.
Cruisen Elf Posted February 17, 2022 #93 Share Posted February 17, 2022 During our recent sailing on Anthem, we were told that the theater stage was designed specifically for their show of "We Will Rock You." They said it could not be re-done for a different production without going into dry dock and removing the hull. Perhaps this is the reason why the Broadway shows don't change very often or rotate from ship to ship.

In your opinion what makes Cats so horrible? For me it was that I couldn’t figure out the storyline. So that left me watching people dressed up as cats dancing and singing songs I didn’t recognize, except for one song. So it got tedious after a couple of songs. Plus I’m a dog person and not really into cats so I didn’t find any enjoyment in the costumes but to each their own.
piper28 Posted February 17, 2022 #98 Share Posted February 17, 2022 21 hours ago, John&LaLa said: No Mama Mia, of course. Heh, the one good thing I'd have said about Cats is that it's not Mamma Mia. 🙂 Then again, I may be a bit biased against Mamma Mia after having stayed at Mandalay Bay a few times back when it was running there, and constantly having to put up with the music everywhere around the property. Cats came through at the local venue here as part of the broadway subscription, and since we had that, we went and saw Cats again. Nope, sorry, it's not any better than it was the first time I saw it. First act largely lousy, second act mildly better. Not something I'd go out of my way to see again. Didn't help that the previous show in the series was Hadestown, so you went from a truly incredible show to something that's just meh. I think way back in the day Cats was somewhat innovative. It was certainly a bit hit initially at a time when I don't think there were many huge shows. My understanding was the staging in New York was really quite impressive. Probably one of the first big "spectacle" shows. So it built a lot of initial hype that drew a lot of people to it. Apparently, it was always pretty popular with people visiting NY that weren't strong english speakers, a lot of people seem to feel it's not a show you really need to be able to follow the lyrics on. After that I have to wonder if there's an element of "Well, I had to watch it, so I'm going to convince other people they have to watch it just to make them suffer too". 🙂
