brenderlou62 Posted March 31, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2022 Does this port have shopping close to where you debark?
HicksRA Posted March 31, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2022 Yes. Quite a bit.
The Grumpus Posted March 31, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2022 Yep - right at the end of the pier.
bonsai3s Posted March 31, 2022 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2022 The port area is essentially an outdoor mall...stores, a faux Mayan temple, retaurants, a large pool, real flamingos, aviary ($), dolphin experience ($), bars, a sandy area with loungers, and taxis lined up just inside the gate. smokeybandit Posted March 31, 2022 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2022 I was surprised at the shopping. Comparable to cozumel in size

It's actually quite a good area. They also have the fish pedicures.
RockHoundTX Posted April 1, 2022 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2022 They have the standard souvenir stuff but it tends to be significantly more expensive than the same stuff in Cozumel (in some cases 2x or 3x the cost so shop around). One of the shops does have a guy that carves necklace pendants out of pesos. He is pretty skilled and competitively priced. If you go to town (about a 45 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi-ride) there is significantly more hand-made stuff (and much cheaper drinks). Costa Maya is really not a "shopping destination". That is what Cozumel is for. Figure there is 100x the number of stores in just the Cozumel down-town area as compared to Costa Maya.

Fish pedicures looked really interesting, but apparently, they are not very healthy or sanitary for people. Edited April 1, 2022 by Coralc
Loucat Posted April 3, 2022 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2022 Anyone interested in a fish pedicure should read the CDC site on the possible infections that can result from this treatment. Interesting reading! https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/hygiene/body/fish_pedicures.html
lifes-a-beach Posted April 3, 2022 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2022 That reminds me of how the CDC had to tell people to wash their hands as a COVID prevention measure. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
